Hansard

Mr. Speaker, what I suspect Nova Scotia and Atlantic MPs will do is support the budget because it is good for Nova Scotia. It in fact allowed the government of Nova Scotia to balance its budget this year.

However, I can tell the member opposite what we will not do. We will not do what the Liberal leader did to the member for Thunder Bay—Superior North. We will not throw a member out of caucus for voting his conscience. There will be no whipping, flipping, hiring or firing on budget votes as we saw with the Liberal government.

I wonder if those people who say there is no documentation will shrivel up and die of embarrassment. Just like MacKay is now.

Every freakin' political show today said that Dion and Layton were quoting Hansard and MacKay remained rooted to his seat because what can he say? Nothing.

And the silence is deafening.

Tradition or not, a system that does not allow an MP to represent the people who elected him has a serious flaw.

What exactly does booting him from caucus accomplish? I don't care which party does this, it is just plain dumb.

You sound like a Reformer. They're gone now, none left in the Conservative Party. All of them lost their tongues when the gained power. I am very surprised to see Conservatives on the East Coast speaking out more and more, like the Western Reformers did during the 90s. I have to wonder about all those Sasketchwan MPs who show up in the commons and sit, silently, saying nothing while their province doesn't receive what it was promised.

I am not nor have I ever been a Reformer. Didn't agree with the way they operated or the people who were running that party. In fact I have never been a fan of Bill Casey but I think that he stood up for his constituents was fantastic. This is something that is truly lacking in our system.

Or else they continue to lie to themselves that it is impossible that MacKay would ever say such a thing.

Thank you for the source. You understand how, given your feelings towards the Government, we aren't going to take your word for what they said.

I had no intention of taking dobbin's word for it.

Obvviously he shouldn't have said it, but Jay Hill (Chief Whip) did tell Casey what would happen he warned him up front about voting against a confidence motion. This is normal for confidence motions, the Liberals booted out one of theirs Joe Cosumo for breaking rank.

Don't really know what Casey was thinking. Probably frustrated as a backbencher despite his eminent qualifications for some sort of role.

Yes, the Government really does have a Special Advisor for Maple Leaf Web.

I'm American why? Because I don't knee jerk oppose everything Americans do?

Don't get me wrong. Iraq is a farce, and it's a damn good thing we aren't there.

But I don't think that gives Canadians carte blanche to sneer at everything the US does.

Darn, is there an assistant and how much does it pay - I want in on it :D

Unbelievable, why not just come out and call JDobbin an outright liar. Man you have stones.

The Deputy PM makes a statment and then the party goes ahead and does exactly what they say he says they aren't going to do. Who's the liar? Pure as the driven snow I tell ya!

JDobbin, don't bother waiting for your apology. Michaels balls are big, but not quite that big, he has proven it over and over again.

I just find it a little surprising that I can put link after link up here and people will still deny MacKay ever said what he did. I'm sure the new story will be that someone recorded it wrong on Hansard next.

I've never questioned that a party must have solidarity on a budget bill.

It is Tories who howled across the floor when Dion evicted someone from caucus over the budget. It was MacKay who said the Tories would never, ever do such an odious thing.

I just find the denial over and over and over again to be a little surprising. I'm not going to say someone wasn't reading from Hansard when it is so easy to look it up.

The different line of attack now is that Casey is a no good turncoat from way back. That is something you can't look up on Hansard. It comes from the dirty playbook of Tory politics instead which is under lock and key in the PMO.

I never called him a liar. He won't take anything Conservatives say without corroboration? Why deos he deserve anymore?

I have to agree with your assessment. Standing up on principle for your constituents was a key plank the Reformers were trying to capitalize on, back in their days. Now that so many have become elected Conservatives, the values they held, have been lost.

But you can really tell when a Politician is doing something he feels is right, vs grandstanding or selling out.

Looks like MacKay is trying to defend his position.

http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/capress/070607/..._dispute_mackay

he Foreign Affairs minister faced withering opposition attacks this week after fellow Nova Scotian Bill Casey, a veteran Conservative MP, was ejected from the party for voting against a budget that will alter the province's cherished Atlantic Accord on offshore energy revenues.

Just three weeks ago, MacKay claimed that such expulsions wouldn't happen, saying during parliamentary debate: "We will not throw a member out of caucus for voting his conscience. There will be no whipping, flipping, hiring or firing on budget votes as we saw with the Liberal government."

MacKay, in Halifax on Thursday for a shipbuilding announcement, lashed out at Casey, accusing him of abandoning the party just as it was about to land a compromise deal with Nova Scotia.

"When it comes to the issue of the budget and the Atlantic Accord we're in the third period," he said. "You don't leave the ice when the game is not over."

He justified his party's decision to expel Casey by arguing he "never believed" the veteran MP would actually vote against the government on a money bill.

Pretty weak justification given MacKay's blowhard response to the Liberals over the issue.

I thought you would be wise enough to back off on a losing comment. I did the search, I went on the Hansard page, I scrolled through all the crap to find the quote. If you think I made it up or took it out of context, then I will let you find it like I did.

I believe it is May 15th in Hansard if you want to bother. It's recorded, its there, like everyone has said and quoted before and will afterwards.

The source is Hansard, the link was not provided on purpose. Because everyone was quoting it, saying it was from Hansard, and only you were denying the words, I provided the Hansard text. The rest is nit picky for a talk forum. You could easily have found this yourself, but the scrolling is truly agonizing, unless you like to read the text in Hansard (don't have the time), until you find the golden quote.

You are alone in your denial on this one, and it doesn't help your argument, that if you go against a budget, you get turfed. It is not unusual, it's been done in the past, and Peter MacKay said it wouldn't happen, not you. So why bother defending the undefendable?

:)

Sorry John. Don't agree with your comments. Link Source? You makin this stuff up? That links not good enough. Find another one!

Max, you post this the one time dobbin actually provides a link that supports what he is saying?

Take a look at the other posts where his "proof" was fairly questioned. Then you'll see the difference.

I never denied the words.

Sorry am I being to "nitpicky" in pointing out the truth?
