Michael Bluth Posted April 21, 2007 Report Posted April 21, 2007 And it looks like a crystal ball thrown in for good measure. Harper gets his hair styled and a tea leaf reading at the same time. Weren't you the one arguing for honesty and "evidence"? Oh I get it. That's only for people who support the Prime Minister. If you oppose Stephen Harper it's a different set of rules. tsk tsk tsk Quote No one has ever defeated the Liberals with a divided conservative family. - Hon. Jim Prentice

Good on you! F*ck you aren't even the first one on this thread to post some dumbass photoshopped picture of Harper being done up like a woman and/or clown. Your posts are pathetic sir. jdobbin Posted April 21, 2007 Author Report Posted April 21, 2007 Even the Sun newspaper columnists are having a hard time swallowing the "cover-up." http://www.edmontonsun.com/Comment/2007/04...067442-sun.html Last year, the Conservative party alone siphoned just over $10 million directly from the public purse as part of the new funding regime. That doesn't include about $9 million the Tories got from the federal treasury in election refunds, nor the roughly $6 million lost to the public coffers from tax-deductible donations. All of which means the costs of providing Harper with the services of Miss Make-Up should be a matter of open public record like any other government expense. Hiding politically sensitive spending in the books of political parties is nothing new. Quote
jdobbin Posted April 21, 2007 Author Report Posted April 21, 2007 More editorials on Harper's make-up artist. http://newglasgownews.com/index.cfm?sid=24239&sc=53 Muntean receives a government salary to maintain Harper’s wardrobe and image when he’s on the road.It would appear that it should be a small matter on a big ship, and relatively speaking, it is. We could suppose that in this day and age of media over-analysis and endless sound bytes, a world leader might need someone to help polish up his image for the cameras and microphones. That idea might not overly impress most hard-working Canadians, but it’s understandable, for the most part. What might tweak the nose of the average Canadian taxpayer is the fact the Tories are so hush-hush about Muntean’s financial remuneration. Muntean’s role is all about image, but by refusing to say how much money she’s being paid, the Tories and Harper did their own image a disservice this week. Requests for information on how tax money is spent should not be met with stonewalling and denial. Quote

jdobbin Posted April 21, 2007 Author Report Posted April 21, 2007 More from Nova Scotia on Harper's image maker. http://thechronicleherald.ca/Canada/648248.html Watchdogs are critical."Even if she was being paid a very low wage, this is not something taxpayers should pay for," said Duff Conacher of Democracy Watch. "I would hope that any prime minister would be fully capable of dressing himself and combing his own hair if he’s going to reach this position." John Williamson of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation doesn’t like the way the government refused to reveal who pays Ms. Muntean. "This is of course a government that was elected promising greater accountability and transparency and yet taxpayers are unable to have a simple question answered, which is, who’s paying this person’s bill?" How hard is it to reveal how much she is getting paid? Quote

jdobbin Posted April 21, 2007 Author Report Posted April 21, 2007 This is what Harper promised when he was campaigning. http://www.cbc.ca/news/background/realityc...d/20060411.html The Conservatives had campaigned on a promise to implement the reform proposals of the freedom of information commissioner, John Reid. He is recommending enactment of a public-interest override to get around government objections to release certain, normally exempt information. He also wants an amendment to expand the Access to Information Act to cabinet documents. It matters not who makes the request but to honor that request for information because it is in the "public interest." The public interest covers how taxpayer money is spent. Quote

If his stylist is being paid with our monies we god damn well deserve the right to know what it is costing us. This is such a little thing, you know I really don't even care, I want our face on the international stage to look the best he can, but HE OWES IT TO US to tell us what it is costing us. That time period has not elapsed. He will release it in time. It is a partisan issue. If it weren't the Government wouldn't lbe pushing it until the Government has breeched the rules of Parliament. Its very simple and its not a partisan issue. An official request for the information was made by the Canadian Press news service. The search turned up nothing and party officials initially denied she was on the payroll. It is pretty secretive if they can't even tell what department is paying for her services and how much. Another editorial on the subject. http://www.thestar.com/article/205213 In the past, Harper has insisted on full public disclosure of all government expenses. He once even demanded Reform party leader Preston Manning reveal how much the party paid for his clothing allowance. When elected, Harper promised a new era of openness in government. So why won't he say how much we are paying for his personal groomer? Why did it take an official request of Parliament? Any citizen should be able to access the information on how much a service is costing them. There is little excuse for a search that turns up "nothing." Quote
jdobbin Posted April 21, 2007 Author Report Posted April 21, 2007 Another editorial on Harper's make-up artist. http://www.niagarafallsreview.ca/webapp/si...pinion&classif= Insiders reveal Harper is notoriously sensitive about receiving advice on his image, swiftly putting subordinates in their place when they bring up the matter. He only takes tips from the expert. It took the better part of this week for the PM's office to finally reveal the public is picking up the tab for her services. She's part of the prime minister's staff. The Conservative Party apparently pays her expenses. The PMs office needs to come clean on this one, especially considering the fact Harper, as a Reform MP, went after Manning to disclose a clothing allowance. Get it out in the open. Otherwise this whole makeup/image thing smacks of a coverup - in more ways than one. How many people have to speak up before the cost is revealed? Quote

newbie Posted April 21, 2007 Report Posted April 21, 2007 Ok, I see where the confusion lies.Harper was PO'd at Manning for the clothes, and now Harper is doing the same thing with the image consultant. Well, thanks for clearing that mess up. Gotta remember clothes - not ok, image -ok. Got it. Quote
