Speaking at a rally in Quebec City alongside Andre Boisclair, Gilles Duceppe called on all "progressives" to unite and defeat the "Dumont-Harper Axis".

Then Duceppe went on to ask: "What negotiating strength would Quebec have with a leader who puts its future into the hands of Stephen Harper?"

Does this mean that the BQ will not support the Conservative budget next week?

It's true nonethless that the typical ADQ voter is also a typical Conservative voter (and also typically shops at Canadian Tire). The ADQ vote percentage will give an indication of the Quebec Conservative vote.

Harper's speech in Toronto refers to the same kind of people that Dumont is drawing in.

Dumont voted Conservative in the last federal election but he has been explicit about remaining in Quebec politics and not having any ties at the federal level.

Lastly, Duceppe choice of term is reminiscent of Bush Jnr's "Axis of Evil".

Will Charest consider his options if Harper truly, deeply is involved with Dumont? In other words, will he direct his forces against the Tories in favour of the Liberals in a federal election?

I think it is an intelligent strategy from the pq/bloc, while the plq has no strategy and is unorganized, the pq try to unite the progressive who are afraid of the conservative movement, Evry tendency has his opposite tendency, they will polarize the vote. They are numberous to be afraid of the conservative and they will go vote. Just getting 3-4% form the green party and the quebec solidaire party could give them a majority government. Im not saying they would steal ADQ's vote but they could stop his momentum, in other word for the fisrt time since 40 year the election would be left vs right and not federalist vs sovreignist.

But there is also the aftermath of the election, the ADQ and the conservative movement is becoming stronger and stronger and i beleive it could change dramatically the political map in quebec. We never know maybe it could last an entire century, we could have sereval minority government and more important it would dramatically change the conservative party in canada giving them more articulate politician a solid base with stronghold in the quebec region. And i don't know if you realized but the left vs right debate, the PLQ and PLC are right in the middle, with the right chief, they can either dominate their two opposant with the bad one they can be squeezed in between, if we look at the Federal intention vote in quebec, the PLC have been 3rd since harper have been elected, it could become the same on the provincial scene.

Immigration is economic lifeblood. If Quebec wants to vote a separatist (PQ) or borderline fascist (ADQ) party in power, Quebecer's health care and trade will suffer. The land of daycare unfortunately has a fascist streak. There is a town in Quebec where a Muslim woman can't cover her face. There are fucking language police?! Welcome to the 20th century, Eastern Quebec.

Duceppe appuie l'Axe Dumont-Harper

The Bloc Québécois vowed to support the federal Conservative government's new budget Monday, which should give enough support to ensure its passage and prevent an election.

Under the budget, Quebec would get roughly $698 million of the $1.5 billion in the upcoming fiscal year designed to correct the so-called fiscal imbalance between Ottawa and the provinces.

"It's our money," Bloc Leader Gilles Duceppe told CBC News Monday outside the Commons after Finance Minister Jim Flaherty's speech.

"We'll take the money and André Boisclair will win the next Quebec election."

Politics makes for strange bedfellows. Take the Money and Run.

H/t to Stignasty

Maybe Bakunin but it's pretty hard not to see Duceppe as the risée of English Canada and even Quebec.

Huh?

Do all Quebecois or just the leadership of the PQ suffer from this strange form of dementia?

I think it's pretty sad that his comment didn't get a rise out of anybody.

But I guess you aren't a "real" Canadian if you dare question Quebec's money...
