bush_cheney2004 Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 Are you comparing the U.S. to Saddam Hussein?I think our trade with the U.S. was and is normal trade. Others feel that the sale of enriched uranium, depleted uranium, napalm, munitions, chemical defoliants, and mil-spec parts constituted immoral sale of war materials. Most Canadians were kept clueless and led to believe that 4% unemployment was a gift from the Tooth Fairy.....and they bought it. Tommy Douglas, The Greatest Canadian, agreed with me. Tommy Douglas, the Greatest Canadian believed in eugenics. Agree with him about that too? Most Canadians knew that we had an alliance with the U.S. through NORAD and NATO. They knew we had trade with the U.S. in material. They still didn't support what the U.S. did in Vietnam and our government said so. Quote
Guthrie Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 you seem to be fixated on it --- but personally, I don't care if you get benefit checks - I would rather have you in mom's basement than wandering the streets at night, you might get hurt on the concrete sidewalks and paying your hospital bills would be more expensive still My "mom" is dead and she never had a basement. However, it seems you know all about such living arrangements! You may have you ass back. Think of it as appeasment. Norman Bates lied about his mother too -- and if you've been playing with an effigy of my ass, don't bother handing it back, just put it with your diplomas --- and your spy awards --- and your collection of dolphin statues Quote “Most middle-class whites have no idea what it feels like to be subjected to police who are routinely suspicious, rude, belligerent, and brutal” - Benjamin Spock MD

Personally, I think Tommy and the NDP are Commies! It's not that Canadians supported the Vietnam War...but that many were supported by the Vietnam War through employment. It's cool....we need lots of LAV III's too! Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

No, I posted the opinion of The Greatest Canadian. Actually it was 58,193 (so far). Don't cry for the Yanks.....all that Canadian defoliant is still wreaking havoc in Vietnam. jdobbin Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 Correct...what a team !!! Even today the U.S. keeps walking into places like Iraq. You'd think that the President would show some haste. Quote

(See my history lesson above.) He'll be Prez until January 2009...'bout the same time Canadians may leave Afghanistan? Been in Korea and Japan over 50 years. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

theloniusfleabag Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 Of the two posters that make the most brutally honest sense, I must tip my hat to both bush_cheney2004 and to Black Dog (though they lie on opposite ends of the spectrum). In some cases, one might consider that 'appeasement' is like being in a cage with a horny gorilla...he/she wants to f#@k your lights out...but you might be able to stave off the 'unacceptable' (unless you have that particular bent- of either enjoying it or desiring a fight to the death) by offering it a banana (quite aside from the fact chimps and new-world monkeys more prefer bananas). If your captive gorilla (or third world country) is more profitable alive than dead (at your zoo, for example, or even in one of your t-shirt factories), then offering the banana course seems the most sensible.
