Senator Michael Meighen is the latest Conservative to be asked to step down by his party's leadership. Meighen was the vice-chair of the high-profile security and defence committee, and has been a member since its inception in 2001.
But late Monday he told the committee he had been asked by his party's leadership to quit his post and leave the group completely. He said he was amazed by the request but was forced to comply.

One wonders if an elected Senate could tell harper to take a hike.

Spate of forced Tory Senate resignations creates turmoil in red chamber
OTTAWA (CP) - The Senate is in turmoil over a spate of forced resignations from the Conservative side of the upper chamber.

Liberal Senators suggested he was being punished for defending a trip the committee took last summer to the Middle East that involved a lengthy, unexpected stop in Dubai.

Last week, Conservative Senator Hugh Segal was asked to step aside as chairman of the foreign affairs committee.

This man is into complete control. Everything he does and has ever said is what he believes. Oh yes sidebars like environment and aids which he had come out with recently are there to smooth our fears. Will any of what he says be done, I very much doubt it. Wake up Canadians this man is a menace

Next we will see him handing out money to his friends in envelopes. Just kidding. No one is that corrupt.

I have noticed that all the previous posters here are of like minds.

Where are the comments from open CPC supporters and their thoughts on the actions taken upon Conservative Senate Members?

I really don't know the motivation behind these moves.

Good to see wasteful spending and needless trips are no longer accepted in the Senate. That's the extent of my opinion on it.

If you think a senate seat gives you the right to hang out in Dubai for a week on my tax dollar, I expect you to resign. Good to see Harper thinks the same.

That was an excellent report that the Senator produced on Afghanistan. Even though Steve tried to bar them from reaching their goal of being in Afghanistan and forcing them to stay at the military base in Dubai. Some of the Senators slipped through to Afghanistan at a later date and were able to finish their excellent report.

Disgusting how Steve is spreading his dictatorship all over.
