I've started another topic on this because I didn't know if it belonged in one of the others. excerpts from two pieces.

In the face of evidence agreed upon by hundreds of climate scientists, George Taylor holds firm. He does not believe human activities are the main cause of global climate change.

Taylor also holds a unique title: State Climatologist.

-snip-

In an exclusive interview with KGW-TV, Governor Ted Kulongoski confirmed he wants to take that title from Taylor. The governor said Taylor’s contradictions interfere with the state’s stated goals to reduce greenhouse gases, the accepted cause of global warming in the eyes of a vast majority of scientists.

First off, the report issued was not by the scientist but by the political hacks who have a vested interest in spending the peoples’ money on their pet theories. The report from the scientists, due out in a few months, will actually be a back peddling on the cries of doom and gloom as more and more reality makes it into the so called ’science’ of global warming. But what is disturbing is the idea someone can be punished, removed from their job, by some layman pol who probably can’t understand HS physics or biology. The fact is the Global Warming crowd which points to mankind as the driving force behind the phenomena have no scientific basis for their claims AND ADMIT IT. They caveat and condition all their claims so as to make sure they do not violate the scientific definition of fact vs is wild eyed theory.

Union of Concerned Scientists ?an example of iberal propaganda from the side which is trying to squash debate.

February 07, 2007 By Dennis Byrne

In trying to prove that the Bush administration is throttling research into global warming, the Union of Concerned Scientists rolled out some breathtakingly bad science.

The group unveiled a supposedly scientific survey of more than 1,600 federal climate scientists as evidence that the administration was engaged in "wide-ranging political interference in research related to global warming."

"The new evidence shows that political interference in climate science is no longer a series of isolated incidents but a system-wide epidemic," Dr. Francesca Grifo, Director of the UCS Scientific Integrity Program, said in a press release. "Tailoring scientific fact for political purposes has become a problem across many federal science agencies."

Grifo obviously doesn't' appreciate the irony when he trots out a poll that is so flawed that it is manifest evidence of exaggeration, incompetence or dishonesty on his group's part.

You don't have to be a social scientist to understand that the survey was deceptive, for example, when it lumped into the same category scientists who said they actually experienced the alleged tampering and scientists who simply "perceived" that it happened to someone else. For example, the group's press release said "Forty-three percent of respondents reported they had perceived or personally experienced changes or edits during review of their work that changed the meaning of their scientific findings." But turn to the study's appendix, and you'll find that only 15 percent of the respondents said that they had actually experienced such interference.

-snip-

And if anything makes Bush look bad, some in the media will show up. Like NBC's Brian Williams, for example, who intoned on his nightly newscast: "The question in Washington was this: did the Bush administration...try to cook the books on the topic of global warming?"

-snip-

I'm not surprised, but I can't excuse, how the Union of Concerned Scientists, the inexhaustibly liberal and self-appointed guardians of scientific purity, can try to corrupt science for its own ends. But I never can get over how so many of my media colleagues allow themselves to be so easily manipulated by junk science.

Glaciers growing around the world - bad news for the climate change jet set

Antarctic glaciers surging - Masses of Antarctic ice have been moving twice as fast as usual, say researchers in a recent article in Science. Five of the six glacial tributaries that fed the Larsen Ice Shelf have entered "active surging phases." It is clear, they said, that the Boydell, Sjogren, Edgeworth, Bombardier and Drygalski glaciers are all surging. Mar 9, 2003. The Seattle Times.
Russian glaciers surging - On September 20, 2002, a huge 22-million ton piece of the gigantic Maili Glacier broke loose and crashed down a steep gorge into the village of Kami killing more than 150 people and injuring hundreds more.
Antarctic growing colder. Although the Antarctic Peninsula-a thin sliver of land that juts above the Antarctic Circle-has been warming, temperatures in the vast empty spaces of East Antarctica have been falling for decades. (Time, "Cracking the Ice, 3 Feb 2003)
Greenland growing colder. Studies of historical meteorological data show that temperatures in this northern polar region have been falling. Over the last 40 or 50 years there has been "statistically significant cooling, particularly in south-western coastal Greenland. Sea-surface temperatures in the Labrador Sea also fell. The studies were made by Dr. Edward Hanna, from the University of Plymouth, UK, and Dr. John Cappelen, of the Danish Meteorological Institute, and presented in the Journal of Geophysical Review Letters. BBC News. 11 March 2003. http://news.bbc.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/2840137.stm
Alaska's Hubbard Glacier surging. Yakutat, Alaska. July 15, 2002. Bulldozing a gravel moraine in front of it, the Hubbard Glacier is advancing so rapidly that has nearly cut off Russell Fiord from Disenchantment Bay. The resulting ice and gravel dam is cutting off the supply of salt water, turning Russell Fiord into Russell Lake, endangering the small fishing village of Yakutat.
Russia abandons Ice Station Vostok. Mar 4, 2003. For the first time ever, Russia is forced to abandon its base at Vostok. Due to heavier than usual pack ice, supply ships have been unable to reach their usual docking berths, leaving them unable to deliver fuel and supplies. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/2818025.stm

I think you forgot to mention that it was the university and not the state that gave this guy the title "State Climatologist."

The state now says that he is not the state climatologist.

His freedom to speak remains. He just can't call himself the state climatologist, a title the state did not bestow on him.

As for Dennis Byrne, he is also a believer in Intelligent Design.

He also invents articles:

He also decries the lack of good news stories coming from Iraq as if that would change the situation there.

This guy routinely shoots his mouth off for conservatives and is more often wrong that right.

this thread is as pathetic an assault on science as I have seen

Global warming and flying saucers are going to be the next tools to scare us. I saw UFO sitings reported on CNN the other day. To many people know about terrorism for it to have its desired affect so they have groomed global warming and pollution and will start setting us up for UFO's.

Aldous Huxley has a speech that he gave at Berkely called "The Ultimate Revolution". The speech was given in 1962.

He doesn't mention bankers specifically but he does talk about a controlling oligarchy and the book by HG Wells called "The New World Order". Understanding this helps you put the whole global warming thing into perspective.

Don't be afraid to have a peek behind the curtain.
