mcqueen625 Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 U.N. envoy seeks Security Council action for Somalia POSTED: 3:03 a.m. EST, December 27, 2006 Here we go again the rudundant ineffective UN taking the side is Islamic militants bent on world domination. Their stated goal is to turn Somalia into a Taliban-style repressive onclave where people's freedoms are limited at best, and where females are viewed as chattel, to be beaten or murdered if they dare step out of line or open their mouths. The world should be standing up to these extremists and telling them that the world has had enough, and if they don't find their proper place soon the fre world will ban their activities altogether. That may sound rather harsh, but it seems to be the only thing that these nut-cases understand. People want freedom of speech, freedom to make their own choices of how they live and above all freedom to worship they way they want, not to be dictated by minorities and extremists from any particular lobby group, religious or otherwise. The Ethiopian airforce with Somalias blessing and help drove them out of the Capital,Mogadishu[sp]?.A fine example of African co-operation. As far as Miss McQueen being judgemental,where have you being hiding,what good have you heard the Taliban doing?,considering what she said was to my opinion entirely reasonable. The Taliban should be dealt with,what is that saying,''EXTREME PREJUDICE''.It is only language they seem to respect and understand. My Apologies to mcqueen if that is not what she meant. Exactly what I meant. The Taliban as well as other extremist groups seem to feel that they have the right to force their totalitarian culture onto other peoples by force, and the only way to combat force is with force. First of all it's not Miss, but Mr. and I admit that I am no student of Islam, but I have read that nowhere in the Koran does it tell women that they MUST cover their heads and bodies. This is simply a wacked-out interpretation of the Koran but a bunch of old men who feel that women should be subservient to men, and while I'm sure some woman would be willing to put up with this, I would bet that the vast majority of women, regardless of religious beliefs, would much rather not wear head-to-toe garb. I'm also willing to bet that most women, including Afghanistani women would much rather want to fully take part in society, which is something that the Taliban rulers and Imam's do not support, educationally or otherwise. If this werer not so the schools in Afghanistan would still be a boy's-only club, but since the Taliban were chased away, many women now attend school on a regular basis. That is a good thing! Quote

Thousands of Somalis -- many of them already devastated by severe flooding -- have been forced from their homes by the fighting, Fall said. "The deteriorating situation in Somalia has no doubt dealt a serious blow to efforts aimed at the early resumption of peace talks," Fall said. "The fighting has also compounded an already serious humanitarian crisis, resulting in additional displacement of populations." Nothing in there about supporting the ousted Islamic regime. Quote

OK now tell me...are you as naive to believe that this is the TALIBAN STYLE.... theres a difference between the Taliban in AFghanistan long ago...and the taliban's we have now a days...which I may add are from Pakistan..trained in Pakistan. You are being judgmental on the TALIBANS ...the media have told you about. Which are not the real Taliban's! You get what I'm saying? Are you just gonna sit there in front of the t.v and listen to the fact that taliban's have done this and that...when its not even the real taliban's!!!?!! And do you their reasons? ANd one more thing geez....if the women ddidn't have rights at one point they would've..because that's how a country develops. Canada for example didn't giev women they're rights either..remember? But eventually Canada developed and balanced out right. SO would have Afghanistan. And I a have question for you: here What have you specifically read about women being covered up in the Koran? Be specific! Since you asked someone else the question - I will not step in to answer - but we all have seen what happens when the taliban get control. Perhaps you could kindly tell us how good the taliban are and how they have generated peace in the regions they inhabit? Perhaps you might also let us know what the REAL taliban are doing? Rights - hmm ... I do not actually agree with your thought process. Even before women in Canada got the vote, they could own property and businesses. They were able to walk alone to the store for groceries. They could actually sing and dance. They could even go to a doctor. Come to think of it - I do not recall the last time a woman was stoned to death in Canada. Perhaps it was after the first honour killing - my memory is a little fuzzy on the honour killing part - but maybe you could set that record straight for the rest of us?
