What is the definition of a hypocite. Hilter is considered a monster, he killed at least 6 million Jewish people while the rest of the world, including Canada, stood by and refused entry of these peoples.

Stalin killed at least 20 million of his own people, he was considered a monster as well.

There have been horrendous deaths from small dictators after these men, many of them pupets of the US government and by hidden consent countries such as Canada.

Now the world, including Canada, is standing by allowing millions to die in Africa. Canada did announce that medicines would be generically availabe when Chretien was in government but backed down pretty quickly from presure of the drug companies.

Are we any differnet now than we were. We are hypocites, hiding behind our greed and religions.

If you're speaking of Darfur, we in the West have made it clear we find what is happening unacceptable, and have tried to get something done. However, the Islamic block in combination with the Russians and Chinese support the murder and genocide there, and so real intervention would spark more deaths than it would save.

And speaking of hypocrisy - that would be the Islamic block, the Chinese and Russians, constantly bemoaning the lack of human rights for the Palestinians while smiling through the genocide of Darfur and dismissing it as an internal matter of no importance. Or the United Nations Human Rights Commision, constantly criticising Israel, but refusing to criticise Sudan for what is happening in Darfur.

The Sudanese have been unwilling to allow us to intervene other than with the AU. If we get the chance, we should hang their leaders for genocide. But I somehow think that we're not going to get that chance.

I agree with Argus we cannot go in there, it would only bring more hardshipship to our troops and increase the odds of attacks against Canada.

As for aids, there is not much we can do, no matter what we did or how many free drugs we sent it would not be contained unless behaviour is.

So as we did in the 1930's we are once again being hypocrites. All the excuses in the world do not help the orphaned children of Africa.

Be careful with this one people. This is not hypocrisy. Putting taking away someones life with not providing relief under one umbrella is very dangerous. THEY ARE NOT THE SAME!

In much of political philosophy, there is one restriction in all cases in liberty. You can do whatever you want as long as it hurts no one else. This is explained here by John Rawls now classic book "A theory of justice."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Theory_of_Justice

Also, Based on constitutional law in at least US and Canada (i am tempted to say vast majority of the world) your assumption that they are the same are off. A murderer and an observer are not treated the same under the law.

Therefore a murderer is not the same as a person who chooses not to save someone.

Now on to the other thing about not saving these people of poverty nations. In my opinion if you want to save these people you have to "teach them how to fish" but using the same analogy "let them sell their fish to the same townsfolk in the same market". These people have nothing to offer the world in exchange for our help in history and therefore they have been left to their own devices for survival. But this can change, look at Japan, China, South Korea, India, all previously poor countries that offered extremely cheap labour are now rich, or working their way to becoming rich, and certainly better off than African nations. The best way to do this is to allow them to produce goods, and as many suggest produce food to sell to the world, where their competitive advantage is cheap labour, like Japan previously offered. But it has to be a level playing field, this means no tariffs, no subsidies and no protectionism towards imported goods/food. But food in Canada and the US is highly subsidized. In the case of foods sure this means unhappy farmers in Canada who vote for the government in Canada and so whichever government imposes these new rules will lose those votes so its not a good political move. Treat these people with equal rights and the process to eliminating poverty will be quicker. We benefit as well, its win-win.

Maybe you can explain why you think we have an obligation to fix the AIDS problem for all the people in Africa? If we do provide assistance for AIDS victims, it will be because of our generosity not because of an obligation.

Since you are on your high horse, maybe you can tell us how much you have personally donated or done to resolve the problem.

Give me a break. Yet another person who seeks to advance a cause by abusing the English language. AIDS is a disease that affects all humans. It also happens to affect some societies more because different societies have different standards when it comes to sexual behavoir which is the primary mechanism for the transmission of the disease. If people are dying in Africa because of AIDS then the primary blame rests with the local social institutions that made it extremely difficult to convince people to change their sexual behavoir. Implying that outsiders living in Western countries are some how to blame for this state of affairs is quite pathetic. Implying the people living in Western countries are committing some sort of 'genocide' because AIDS is killing people in Africa is simply absurd.

And in your research on this issue , what has been your experience? What can you tell us about the lack of condom use, even though they are available? What can you tell us about the beliefs of having sex with virgins does NOT transmit AIDS? What can you tell us about the warlords who refuse to allow any aid to get through, instead using it only for themselves? What can you tell us about OXFAM (for one) having to send "a security party of one, along with armed guards" that routinely are advised do not proceed any further or you will be killed ? What can you tell us about the same OXFAM having to refuse to proceed any further into many many places due to the fact that the guard is changing and the same man who guaranteed you safety is now dead and his successor will likely kill you?

You have a lot to research, and I suggest you start with the word "hypocrisy". But in this regard I will assist you.

Hypocrisy is the act of pretending or claiming to have beliefs, feelings, morals or virtues that one does not truly possess or practice. I am not so sure "we" are hypocrites , however I do think "you" are . Someone is all up in the air about it, yet tell us nothing about your efforts in assisting.

Doesn't it make you go ..hmmmmmmmmmm... ?

Anyway Margrace, AIDS is not happening in Africa alone. Why are you leaving out Asia? Aren't children dying and being orphaned in Asia?

You're being very indignant and righteous in accusing us all for turning a blind eye on the orphaned children of Africa. And yet, you are turning a blind eye on the people of Asia.

We do not pretend to be otherwise...but you, in your accusatory stance pretends to moral superiority... a righteousness over us all.

Who's actually falling under the definition of a hypocrite here?

Grandmothers to grandmothers

Sub-Saharan Africe has overwhelming numbers of children orphaned by Aids - an estimated 13 million, projected to reach 18-20 Million by the year 2010. As the death rate accelerates, countries and communities simply cannot cope. They are so impoverished that they are driven over the edge by additional mouths to feed and by the desperate efforts to absorb the ophan children.

Amidst this devestation, grandmothers have stepped into the breach. They bury their own adult children and then look after their grandchildren; often as many as fifteen to twenty kids. Somehow these unrecognized heroes of Africa hold countries and communities together.

From the Stepeh Lewis foundation Grandmothers to grandmothers.

Would it be so hard if we lobied our government to keep their commitment made several years ago to supply generic drugs to try and stop this epidemic?

Ah see , I agree with that. But remember that in order to keep our promises there has to be some semblance of normalcy in that region. We can send all the supplies in the world, but they will be black marketed,stolen sold off and otherwise not make it to those in need.

We can make promises until the cows come home, but I for one will not knowingly sacrifice humans to deliver aid to save humans. A fireman does not willingly go into a fire giving his life to save another.

Grandmothers are filling in because grandmothers are the only ones left in the demographics needed to build a strong country. Men of age up to 45 are missing, because they are dead.

Priorities for Canada and the G8 in addressing HIV/AIDS and development

• the passage of the Jean Chrétien Pledge to Africa Act (Bill C-9) enabling compulsory licensing of

pharmaceutical patents and the export of generic pharmaceutical products to countries with

insufficient domestic manufacturing capacity;

• the substantial contribution to the World Health Organization “3 by 5” initiative, which aims to see

3 million people in developing countries on treatment for HIV/AIDS by 2005;

• the doubling of Canada’s contribution to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria

(GFATM);

• the contribution to the UNFPA to address the sexual and reproductive health and rights and

HIV/AIDS among women and girls and to improve the distribution of reproductive health

supplies, such as condoms;

• the contribution to the International Partnership for Microbicides to support the development of

new HIV prevention technologies;

• the increased funding to address HIV/AIDS in Canada through the Federal Initiative on

HIV/AIDS, which will support the invaluable work of community based organizations responding

to HIV/AIDS in Canada; and

• the participation of Honourable Minister Goodale on the Commission for Africa which recognized

the centrality of resource allocation in implementing successfully the various strategies previously

adopted by Canada and other members to rebuild public health and address HIV/AIDS in Africa

(March 11 2005 report); and

• the great opportunities opened up by Canada’s support to the upcoming XVI International AIDS

Conference in Toronto in 2006.

Now that we know what the Liberal government was doing about global AIDS, we want to know what this "new" government is doing. We know what Steve did during the Toronto AIDS conference in 2006. He went into hiding at a Northern military base. I'll just bet that Steve has no money to fight AIDS. He needs it to buy more military equipment.

I don't know about the other promises...but this one had been highly criticized. Apparently, not a single generic pill had been delivered!

At least Stevie hasn't been making empty promises and doling out false hopes.

What's good to hear does not necessarily mean it's going to do any good....if that's all it is: plain lip-service.

Anyway, aren't we giving any foreign aid at all? Who sez we should solve all health problems on this whole planet?

This bill was not about pills being delivered. It was about amending patent laws so that Canadian generic pharmaceutical companies could maintain and proceed to export a list of defined pharmaceutical products.

This bill has it's flaws but it was a start.

Steve hasn't been doing anything except buying more military equipment.

So its okay for Mr. Harper to continue to let 18 Million children die because you see Mr. Chretien did it. what a poor excuse, I still call it hypocritical

Why? What makes you say that? Just how is he "continuing to let 18 million children die?"

Does he have the cure?

What is hypocritical is the usual leftie "selective-favoring" system whenever you want to play god.

You see it all plastered in every media...from Angelina Jolie-to-George Clooney-to-Madonna....and all the lemmings follow suit.

Let's face it. Africa is the leftie's current "flavor of the decade!"

Why should you lobby only for African children? What's wrong with the other children of other poor countries all over the world? THAT'S what's so hypocritical about this!

The earth is already over populated and cannot sustain the human population that already exists. Hundereds of millions of people will likely die in the future as a result of this over population and its consequences (especally if climate change continues) . There comes a point when one has to ask whether saving human lives for sake of the saving lives is really worth the effort. I realize that statement is appalling but I think it is a fact that sits in the back of many people's minds even if they would never admit it.

To fly a plane, you need both a left wing and a right wing.

Exactly. And the April 26, 2005, Priorities for Canada and the G8 in addressing HIV/AIDS and development list that I posted was about children from all over the world.

And where was Steve when the AIDS conference was going on in Toronto in 2006? Hiding in a Northern military base.
