I think the pay hike for Ontario MPPs is the right thing to do. It's a thank less job.

1) They give up at least four times the money they make now, in what they could have made in the private sector (businessman, lawyer, etc)

2) They work long hours (14 hour days usually)

3) They have to deal with stupid constituents (who will complain about something that the MPP probably can't do or change

4) They are under the eye of the media, who will stop at nothing to find something wrong with the MPP.

5) They get personal attacks from hecklers and other politicans.

A higher salary would entice more people to run for Queens Park. When we talk about the poor, politicans shouldn't be one of them.

And as I take man's last step from the surface, for now but we believe not too far into the future. I just like to say what I believe history will record that America's challenge on today has forged man's destiny of tomorrow. And as we leave the surface of Taurus-Littrow, we leave as we came and god willing we shall return with peace and hope for all mankind. Godspeed the crew of Apollo 17.

First of all, no politican is going to be happy with what their making and will always call for increases. There's a time for everything and if Ontario can afford these increases in expense then they can get an increase but a 22%! Harris, if you remember, didn't take the increase he wanted the money for their RRSP's and I'm sure alot of them are ahead of the rest of us! Take alook at their pensions, I heard one politican has collected 500,000.00!! BUT in fairness, the Libs did have to clean-up after Harris and what he did to the healthcare system and thing s still aren't what they should be and I'm sure it will take another 5-10 years to get thing back to 'normal'!!!

I have this great idea on how to help the poor: Give a politician a raise!

You forgot something on the list:

6) They picked their job.

When we talk about the poor, politicans shouldn't be one of them.
My heart goes out to the poor politicians!

The truly poor do not need politicians.

We do not have time for a meeting of the flat earth society.

1. Polititicians should not be giving themselves raises. Their pay should be set by an external party or linked to an objective measurement.

2. Any pay raise should not start until the next election. Obviously the argument that it is necessary to attract qualified canidates doesn't appy to the current term, so the salary adjustment shouldn't either.

The Premier said the increase was needed because too many politicans were leaving and so to keep them they needed to increase their salaries. I believe if its the MONEY that is drawing these politicans than no wonder this province is in such a state! I believe you go into a occupation because you have passion for the job NOT for the money because if you do you won't stay with it or you will not do a good job at it and therefore ,cost time and money to others!

There are a lot of laid off workers that would gladly do the job for just the raise alone. Look at the perks they get, offices paid for, travel paid for, hell, you could even charge packs of gum to your expense account!
