gc1765 Posted December 17, 2006 Report Posted December 17, 2006 Trudeau said alot of crazy things in his youth as well. I hate debating over a bunch of quotes taken out of context since all it is, is partisan bashing at its worst. Maybe we should have a debate over actual issues instead of what some person said or wrote that was no more than two sentences. I'm sure every politician has said something which can be considered extreme. The thing is, many of those quotes are related to important issues. For example, Harper's quotes about Iraq indicate his stance on Iraq. It's important to know a person's stance on an important issue such as Iraq. So, I don't see a problem in debating it. Quote Almost three thousand people died needlessly and tragically at the World Trade Center on September 11; ten thousand Africans die needlessly and tragically every single day-and have died every single day since September 11-of AIDS, TB, and malaria. We need to keep September 11 in perspective, especially because the ten thousand daily deaths are preventable. - Jeffrey Sachs (from his book "The End of Poverty")
Ricki Bobbi Posted December 17, 2006 Report Posted December 17, 2006 I expect very little of the Conservatives. Or the Liberals for that matter. But when they claim that they are the warriors of clean government, democracy, etc. I expect them to not do the exact opposite. Their mouths and their actions should agree at least once in a while. Let's look at their promises (not your opposition to them mind you) GST cut = promise kept Accountability act passed = promise kept Choice in childcare = promise kept Transit pass tax credit = promise kept Textbook tax credit = promise kept Vote to re-open SSM = promse kept And so on and so on and so on. They clearly are doing what they say they will more than once in a while. So why not be honest with your attacks? geoffrey Posted December 17, 2006 Report Posted December 17, 2006 My life hasn't improved despite the promises. He broke a promise on income trusts that financially hurt many seniors... as well as myself to a minor extent. The big thing Ricki Bobbi isn't just keeping of specific promises, it's ideology. I elected a guy that believed in provincial autonomy, small government and lower taxes. He claimed that income trusts were a victory of the average person over the tax man... until he became taxman and then they were an impending danger to the future of Canada. Sheesh. Doesn't take long does it? Canada needs to completely overhall the tax system, and we're not going to see it with Harper's conservatives. I don't think Libs are going to be any better that's for sure. I also think that he needs to tax us less, tax large american business more. But how much more can he cut taxes? Federally, they spend all they can on Social Services and Healthcare. I don't see where there is any room for more tax cuts.. The only way outo of this is a major revamp and at the end of the day, saving money is going to require loss of jobs for gov't employees. That means them losing houses, cars, and becoming societies problem becuase they most likely won't be able to find employment elsewhere (the gov't doesn't hire very skilled poeple). Claiming a politician took part in illegal activity is not rightful cause for banning and is what is discussed here almost daily in one capacity or another. The one about killing grandma with an axe was particularly funny. I expected others to add some quotes to laugh at, but it seems that everything here turns into Liberal/Conservative bashing. Quote

Another 1000 tax credits in the next budget should lower taxes overall and make the tax form 100 pages long (ah, the benefits of e-filing). Quote

Doesn't take long does it? Canada needs to completely overhall the tax system, and we're not going to see it with Harper's conservatives. In 11 months, with a minority government, Harper has made more significant changes to the Canadian tax system than did the Liberals in 13 years. Under the circumstances, this is as close to a complete overhaul as you are going to see. My guess is you'll see the return of the 1/2 point cut in the lowest tax bracket in the new budget. If you look at everything Harper has done in office it totally fits with the guy you think you elected. He had to make a compromise on one tax. What is the value of your trusts compared to the day Harper won the election? If they are close to mirroring the returns of the Trust Index you have still experienced gains. Oh no, they aren't in double-digits... Then again looking at things objectively wouldn't allow you to justify your anger. Actually I didn't expect anyone to debate the quotes. You just thought you would post out-dated qutoes that place the PM in the worst possible light to 'laugh at'? Hmmm imagine that, we all don't share your condescending view of the Prime Minister. jbg Posted December 18, 2006 Report Posted December 18, 2006 We all know what Jack's got on HIS MIND!He should really stop undressing Harper though. Better than what Svend, Brison and Graham have on their minds. I understand that in order to formalize Canada's claim to Hans Island, they planned four-way nuptials with a musk-ox, to throw in polygamy, bestiality, SSM and patriotism (for electoral purposes) in one package.
