OTTAWA-A November cold snap prompted Public Safety Minister Stockwell Day to dismiss Al Gore's climate change crusade in a website article brimming with mockery.

Day's letter to his constituents in the British Columbia riding of Okanagan-Coquihalla constituents last week opened with a shot at the former U.S. vice-president.

"Hey who knows, maybe Al Gore is right,'' Day wrote in the post dated Dec. 6.

"Maybe all my constituents living high up on the West Bench, or Lakeview Heights, or the hills of Logan Lake will soon be sitting on lakeside property as one of the many benefits of global warming.''

Good choice Harper in picking this genius as Minister of Public Safety in charge of the RCMP, the Canadian Security Intelligence Service(CSIS) and protecting us from terrorists.

Stockwell Day has intelligence like Peter MacKay has class.

No one is losing sleep over Kyoto. It's corrupt and disfunctional.

I'm suprised anyone still supports it.

I'm not going to say that Mr. Day is the sharpest tool in the shed, but your post could not be more of a disingenuous (I might have also said guileful, but that implies an element of intellect in deception) attempt to make the Conservatives, and the PM look foolish.

You choose a post title which suggests that you are breaking a story that demonstrates why Harper can't let his ministers make public statements and then imply that it is because they have such outrageous ultra-fanatic personal views.

Day might not be very good at comedy / sarcasm / or "mockery" as the article clearly identifies his musings to be, but he's no worse at it than you are at trying to come up with a valid criticism if this post is any indication.

Absent innuendo like this post, nobody would see this article as anything but Day suggesting...to constituents that live in a deep-freeze...that Mr. Gore's views on global warming are overblown scare tactics. Hardly award-winning prose, (is that an oxymoron?) but nothing scandalous in any way, and certainly not "tout[ing] the benefits of global warming".

Ok then,

Tell me why you support Kyoto. There are VERY well versed lefties here that don't support Kyoto.

The only people who support Kyoto are a few nutcase fanatics, and a vast herd of the ignorant who have no real idea what it is, what it would cost, or what it would involve.

Just shows that democracy is too dangerous, too many fools out there that will believe anything spoon fed to them.

What did Kyoto do for Canada? Increase GHG emissions by 25%.

Ok, I'm against it. Bottom line, a piece of paper means dick all.

Heck the libs make fun of US politicians all the time for sport - why can't Day jump into the fray? Especially on such a BS issue like Al Gore's pet global meltdown theory.

Bottom line is kyoto can be ripped up and should be. The liberals signed onto the kyoto scam not the conservatives. I would agree that Day should be taking this seriously. As the public safety minister he should be adding an economic treason law to his department to go after these UN proxy groups like the Sierra club and the Suzuki's of the country.

That's simply not true. I have an IQ of 136 and research stuff all day. People are rational and can make correct descisions when they are presented with information in a nutshell. When an immigrant sometimes tells me that there are no jobs here in Canada, I say it's becuase they let too many poeple landing here and there aren't enough jobs to go around for everyone.

They look at the fact that some Canadians are working there, they notice that the few better jobs have impossible qualifications for low pay, they realize their friends are working low paid jobs are cna't find work. Then simple logic kicks in and he thinks 'actually there is no jobs and they do let too many poeple come'.

When they realize that the gov't lied to them and see our economy for what it is, they have ALWAYS said 'they shouldn't let so many poeple in if they don't have enough jobs for us'. Another friend on his own accord said they should spread people out to other parts of Canada instead of everyone coming to Toronto because he had an impossible time finding work here. Another Pakistani from the UK told me 'there are no jobs here compared to the UK'. However these are working class adult immigrants who constitute a minority of people that first come here.

If you asked them to vote on immigration reform, you might be suprised they would vote 'yes' to reduce immigration. My soon to be father in law is an immigrant and he feels things have gotten way out of control in the last 15 years or so. But he's a different story, he realizes it's for the Lberal votes that they are being let in. He gets his commentaries published in the National Post and Time Magazine... or McLeans. one of the two.

However, if you ask them to vote once in one single federal election, they are obviosly going to vote in the party that they trust will continue to bring the rest of their family over. They need to have this trust in the Conservatives.

Kyoto is a great way to flush our money down the toilet.

Lol you know those internet IQ scores are not real right? One of my fave university profs had a great line "Only an idiot would tell you their IQ".

Your IQ score is not relevant to the topic, so I must ask why bring it up? Unless you like to swing it around like its your e-penis. IQ scores do not matter anyhow, they are mere standardized tests of no real value or significance. Psychology courses now teach that IQ tests are flawed and are not a good measure of a persons mental capacity.

Most of the 'gifted' kids that I knew in school were only one kind of smart.

IQ Scores:

Lewis Terman (1916) developed the original notion of IQ and proposed this scale for classifying IQ scores:

Over 140 - Genius or near genius

120 - 140 - Very superior intelligence

110 - 119 - Superior intelligence

90 - 109 - Normal or average intelligence

80 - 89 - Dullness

70 - 79 - Borderline deficiency

Under 70 - Definite feeble-mindedness

Ohh yeah stop your xenophobic rants about immigrants.

Innuendo and drive-by smear tactics are indeed the modus Operendi here, I just went to the link. The title and description of this thread are very misleading, Stockwell Day is not doing anything of the kind - he's simply mocking Gore, among other things.

Hey Ho - Ontario Liberals Have to Go - Fight Wynne - save our province

The article was tongue in cheek because of the very snowy and cold events on the west coast where his constituency is, were having a real cold and snowy time compared to the usually much warmer events. He then in a glib manner said he would welcome the global warming etc etc. This was done only to be comical. Only idiots or those with agendas would not see this immediately.

It seems that the Liberal are so scared that they have to try and manufacture things to try and regain power. He even the papers this was reported in knew it was tongue in cheek comments. The same members spinning these things again and again, must really think we are stupid, and that easily swayed.

Uh, you did get that this was "mockery," right, Norm?

You're a BC resident, aren't you Norm? I could understand somebody from other parts of the country not being realizing the absurdity of Day boasting that his constituents in the towering hills surrounding Penticton and Kelowna could soon live on lakefront property, but I would expect better from a BC resident.

I could see a thread title like "Stockwell Day scoffs at global warming" or "Day makes corny joke", but "Day touts benefits of global warming" seems like an attempt at trolling.

Lol you know those internet IQ scores are not real right? One of my fave university profs had a great line "Only an idiot would tell you their IQ".

The following appears in the chapter on Cognitive Abilities in the 6th edition of the textbook Psychology by Bernstein et al:

"Creativity is often assessed by tests of divergent thinking, which measure the ability to generate many different but plausible responses to a problem. Expertise in the field, a set of creative skills, and intrinsic motivation are necessary for creativity. External rewards can deter creativity. The correlation between IQ scores and creativity is not very high. IQ tests measure convergent thinking, whereas creativity is characterized by divergent thinking."

And the correlation coefficient between IQ and intellectual achievement is a mere 0.11...

poeple always get touchy when I bring it up that's why I don't like to. People at work were taking the IQ test so I did it too. I got 136 and didn't know what it meant. Poeple were like.. do you know how high that is?? i was like no.. they got in low 100's. (these 3 guys all had their masters too). They saw the print out as proof and couldn't beleive it. So then I tested my brother and girl I was seing at the time and the scored in the lowsih 100's also. And I noticed that people got very defensive. I read what teh scores meant and found out I had a higher IQ than a Ph.D or M.D:

125 Mean of persons receiving Ph.D. and M.D. degrees

115 Mean of college graduates

105 Mean of high school graduates

100 Average for total population

75 About 50-50 chance of reaching ninth grade

But....

IQ scores do not matter anyhow, they are mere standardized tests of no real value or significance. Psychology courses now teach that IQ tests are flawed and are not a good measure of a persons mental capacity.

All the IQ does is test an on-off switch in your brain for logic. It means nothing. A high IQ will not get you anywhere in life and it does NOT mean you have a strong memory retention which is what doing well in modern school is based off.

I would rather have suprior memory retention than IQ any day. The IQ will help you sove a puzzle, but it will not help you remember answers that you read a night before to pass a test. THe latter is much more importanat if you want to make it far in education.

Most of the 'gifted' kids that I knew in school were only one kind of smart.

The only real smart that matters is the smarts that come from living life.

Having a high IQ doesn't garuntee you poeple skills, that you will do well on tests, nor does it effect your spelling and grammar hehe.

What it does do though is make me right 99% of the time.
