M.Dancer Posted October 19, 2006 Report Posted October 19, 2006 Given that Hezbollah's barrages against Israel were exclusively against civilian targets...... Is anyone surprised? http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/6065950.stm Quote RIGHT of SOME, LEFT of OTHERS If it is a choice between them and us, I choose us
Remiel Posted October 19, 2006 Report Posted October 19, 2006 Not really, though I hesitate to compare around 1000 sub-munitions to millions... Now, it will be interesting to see if anyone in the anti-Lebanon camp will get all worked up over Hezbollah's heinuous use of the weapons. The more interesting (and maybe relevant) part of the article I think is related to the two weapons being the first use of the Type-81s. Quote
Black Dog Posted October 19, 2006 Report Posted October 19, 2006 Both Hezbollah and Israeli forces fired cluster munitions during the recent conflict in Lebanon, according to the group Human Rights Watch. See, such even handness is why HRW is considered a bunch of self-styed leftist shills unworthy of serious considerations by rational and sober people. Quote
Higgly Posted October 19, 2006 Report Posted October 19, 2006 It took a week after Israel started using cluster bombs for Hezbollah to respond in kind. Interesting that they came from China. Haven't heard a peep out of Condy about that have we? Quote "We have seen the enemy and he is us!". Pogo (Walt Kelly).

Higgly Posted October 19, 2006 Report Posted October 19, 2006 Not according to the BBC article in the link above. Quote "We have seen the enemy and he is us!". Pogo (Walt Kelly).
M.Dancer Posted October 19, 2006 Author Report Posted October 19, 2006 Not according to the BBC article in the link above. Thsi is from the thread..."cluster bomb continue to kill after ceasefire........ QUOTEThe UN has found that Israel dropped 90 percent of all the cluster bombs it used in Lebanon in the three days immediately preceding the ceasefire. http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20060913/wl_mi...ns_060913143214 The link is dead though Quote RIGHT of SOME, LEFT of OTHERS If it is a choice between them and us, I choose us
Higgly Posted October 19, 2006 Report Posted October 19, 2006 I tend to trust the BBC. Human Rights Watch, less so. If the BBC quotes HRW without quibble, then I assume the BBC is accepting what HRW is saying. Quote "We have seen the enemy and he is us!". Pogo (Walt Kelly).
M.Dancer Posted October 19, 2006 Author Report Posted October 19, 2006 I've read it twice...where does the BBC mention when Israel used the bulk of the cluster munitions? That being said, why were the terrorists targetting civilians and why were (according to HRW) the terrorists allowed to use human shields........ Higgly Posted October 19, 2006 Report Posted October 19, 2006 I watched that speech on the telly, then I read its coverage in the Globe and Mail... In a few words, he escalated the situation from being about Israel to being about Jews. And he got a standing applause for it. According to Harper, Hezbollah wants to kill all of the Jews. Forget the history of Israel in Lebanon. The constant plotting from Ben Gurion onward to take over South Lebanon up to the Litani. Forget the bombing of Lebanon by Arial ***cough*** psychopath *** cough*** Sharon that killed 15,000 civilians. Those who do not remember the past, are doomed to repeat it. And then we have a party desperate for ridings in Toronto... As I watched that performance, I thought... this is what you get from a guy whose view of the world comes from collecting donations and putting ads in the National Post.... Higgly Posted October 19, 2006 Report Posted October 19, 2006 Sure they were. Robert Fisk describes a meeting he had with an Israeli Airforce pilot about how the IAF picked their targets. They were given pictures of buildings to be bombed. Those buildings were identified by a process the pilot refused to discuss. This was a country in the middle of a civil war. Israel had connected with the Phalange - perhaps weaker than the other factions, but certainly not stronger. Guess who was identifying the targets... The Israeli pilots would make two runs. Fisk had it timed. They would come in low and do a pass. Between 10 and 15 minutes later, they would come in and deliver their payload. Fisk asked the guy about this. What he said was that the pilots were working from pictures of the buildings they were to bomb. They came in on the 2nd run and tried to hit the buildings that looked most like the pictures. Get the picture? Quote "We have seen the enemy and he is us!". Pogo (Walt Kelly).
