August1991 Posted October 6, 2006 Report Posted October 6, 2006 I'm going to put this OP into the Federal category because it concerns first the Liberal leadership race, but the idea is broader. Anyone on the Right in Europe or North America knows that the Left has raised self-doubt to a religion. The Left, to use its own phrase, "questions authority". IMV, being skeptical is a pose while being an intelligent skeptic requires some contact with reality. I happen to think the Left confuses symbol for reality but whatever the confusion, the Left is skeptical about Western Life. More directly, the Left hates the society in which it lives. The Left hates itself. It doubts and questions. What does all this mean? Dion will win the federal Liberal leadership. Why? Because English Canada's "Left" - Liberals - will eat their own. Ignatieff, Kennedy or Rae have no more chance to win than rabble.ca could remain united. English Canada's Left suffers from a questionning self-hate. Similarly, the Republicans will win in November and in 2008 and Bush Jnr. will survive Why? The American Left will question Democrats to death. Democrats will eat themselves - watch what happens to Hilary Rodham; it will be like Lieberman. The Left believes that asking questions makes for sophisticated society. In Canada, Rae, Ignatieff, Kennedy and Layton will be questioned to death. The Left eats its young with questions. Dion will partly avoid these questions because the Left gives a wide berth to anyone perceived as being a "victim". More examples? In English Canada, witness the recent meltdown of rabble.ca. Or notice how the birth rate among Western Leftists is so low. Even Quebec's Left is not immune: the PQ has dissolved into a Quebec Solidaire. Or how about Kinsella's attacks on Rae? Internecine battles are not new. What is new is the self-doubt, fundamental questioning and skepticism of the modern North American Left. These Leftists are bereft of beliefs. They question everything, they even question 9/11. Any Leftist leader will be immediately questioned from all sides. So, Dion will be Liberal leader, Layton will go nowhere and the Republicans will do well in the Midterms and a Republican will be in the White House in 2009. Quote
Riverwind Posted October 6, 2006 Report Posted October 6, 2006 So, Dion will be Liberal leader, Layton will go nowhere and the Republicans will do well in the Midterms and a Republican will be in the White House in 2009.I agree with your predictions but not for the same reasons. I apply the 'inverse hype rule' to predict political events. The Republicians have been beaten up so badly that everyone is expecting a route. For that reason, whatever happens will be seen as victory compared to the pre-election expections. Similarily, Dion will win because he will be the compromise candidate that can heal the party rifts. I see that as the best outcome because we want to have a solid opposition leader for the next couple elections and Dion will do a respectable job. We do not want the Liberals back in power for now. Biblio Bibuli Posted October 7, 2006 Report Posted October 7, 2006 Dion will win ...Dion will win ... Sure he will! Let's keep on plugging others, because if the truth comes out that there is a shoe-in in this race people will become disinterested. GOOD WORK, BOYS & GIRLS !!! sharkman Posted October 7, 2006 Report Posted October 7, 2006 Interesting idea about the Left. This questioning of everything keeps them from making decisive moves and divides them, and only in unity can you be greater than the sum of your parts. I'm not so sure about the Republicans. The present scandal has them questioning each other, and they need unity as well. Perhaps it will present a common foe to excite the grass roots. Quote
