An article I read this morning about the deduction of the word "Canadian" in CN Rail. For one CN is a private company, if they want to take the word Canadian out of their name, so be it. If the Canadian Gov't wants to send Collenette to ask them to put the word back into their name, then they should buy CN and do so. They sold it off in the first place, so leave them alone. Laissez-fair!

Love your quote at the bottom. I have studied Churchill for years, wrote 2 books on him - a man whose likeness will never again touch the PC landscape upon which we now live.

Compare Churchill to Chretien. Okay stop laughing and don't do it, it hurts too much.

On CN - they are another company which operates in a regulated market. They are dependent on gov't support and subsidy. Canada needs to de-regulate its entire transporation industry including airlines, freight, rail and highways.

Did you watch the CBC mini-movie on him? I missed it (stupid me).

The de-regulation of the transportation industry is an obvious must. Look at AC. They can't survive with an outside ownership limited at 25%. F-ing Libs.

Alot of people in the west have a problem with this idea, particularly when talking about rail transport. Some would argue that a strong and extensive rail network is vital to certain parts of Canada that are dependant on it. Take for example many of the small towns that dot the landscape across the Prairies. When the rail lines were decommissioned it virtually destroyed the towns economy and effectively drove all commerce into the cities - along with driving all freight traffic to the highways.

Is this a viable solution or has the free market idea of transportation in Canada flawed?

I think we need to discuss this issue more thoroughly.
