Pliny Posted May 24, 2008 Report Posted May 24, 2008 "Value, needs and wants are in the eye of the beholder." What an illogical statement. On the contrary, it is illogical for you to think you are the arbiter of what others deem are their value, needs and wants. In gaining any understanding of the actions of others and their choices in life it is necessary to not be judgmental but at least attempt an understanding. People do not buy bottled water all for the same reason. If you were any kind of an entrepreneur you would understand that and attempt to perhaps find the most generally agreed upon reason and design your product marketing around that. But since you believe everyone should have the same reason for all their activities as you do you will never understand other people. They are rational if you find out why they do what they do and you don't just write them off as illogical. Quote I want to be in the class that ensures the classless society remains classless.
BubberMiley Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 (edited) Look, peak oil ain't here and OPEC is one reason to believe so. Why? OPEC is the friend of conservationists. One of the conundrums of oil production reaching peak capacity is that there is absolutely no way for anyone to know whether we've reached that peak until after it has happened. The only sign we could have that it is here is by witnessing stagnant production and increasing demand. Evidence strongly suggests that it is here now. So no human being (anonymous internet poster or otherwise) could ever declare with assurance it "ain't here," especially in an environment where supply is stagnant. Unless, of course, he didn't really understand what "peak oil" meant to begin with. Your comment about OPEC and conversationists suggests you don't have a clue. Do you?
