paxamericana Posted December 5, 2025 Report Posted December 5, 2025 (edited) See what you American hater don’t understand is that America will be the premiere super power not because of boring things like allies or even cool weapons. No it’s much simpler than that. The rest of the world is screwed. America is insulated from the coming deglobalized world. America is a net food and energy exporter and is the only economy of size to still support a consumption lead economy. Everyone else aged out or lack the two primary ingredients for modern life, food and energy. Everyone else either need to trade for one or both of those commodities and/or reliant on American security guarantees. A guarantee that America is slowly but steadily moving away from. Down East Posted December 5, 2025 Report Posted December 5, 2025 America isn't insulated from anything, so I don't know where you got this idea from. America is not independent when it comes to food. We are almost totally reliant on foreign potash which is needed to maintain our annual crop yields, and to maintain affordable food costs. We import 90% of our potash. The US has the potential to be energy independent, but we are down to about 130 oil refineries and a few foreign or domestic terrorists could easily disable 5 or 6 of them which severely impact everyday life and our economy. Most of out pharmaceutical ingredients are still shipped in from overseas. Don't you think that might be important? Most of our rare earth material comes from overseas. Quote

The generic, not important, they can be quickly reintroduced with domestic production in a couple of years. Trump has begun to do as such. 4 hours ago, Down East said: Most of our rare earth material comes from overseas. Not rare, just by product of mineral extraction processes of other metal using several vats of acid to refine. Nothing that can’t be reproduced. China simply monopolize this by price suppression . In the event of a national emergency, America can and does have the capacity to produce its own rare earth. This applies to the other points made. What we can’t make For ourselves is within our reach. Edited December 5, 2025 by paxamericana Quote
John Stone Posted December 5, 2025 Report Posted December 5, 2025 .......... arguably with climatic change nowhere near it's peak and population growth increasing at alarming rates combined with increased longevity, one concern is access to fresh water. Of equal concern is energy. A sobering thought is that there are more people alive on spaceship-earth today than have ever lived. If there is indeed magic, it is the magic that can be produced (grown) with fresh water. It takes quantities that cannot be imagined to provide a country with food security and sustained industry Quote

Eventually, but not now or next year either. Building the infrastructure will take years. Trump seemed to have limited awareness of this when he took on China. The right approach to the challenge posed by China is to understand it. In nearly every technological area, China is already competing with the US because of the scale of the country and the talent of its people. And this is despite a system that stifles innovation, The crucial edge America has is in offering freedom and rule of law to the world’s most talented innovators, either directly by living there or indirectly through alliances with similar countries. At the moment, Trump seems determined to trash that advantage. Edited December 5, 2025 by SpankyMcFarland 1 Quote ‘How small we make our worlds. Yes there are draw back to some of Trump's policy with the primary point as you've mentioned; being the slow down of building out said infrastructure. You can argue Trump's policy is accelerating de-globalisation and it's unwanted consequence of raising inflation because the industrial plant is not yet fully built sure. But we were already going to face that issue regardless of Trump, this was a demographic problem in the making, the world stopped having kids, no kids no consumer, no consumption based economies. No workers and certainly no excess capital from retiring people that can be tapped for economic development. These problems were not caused by Trump. You're all upset that the good days are over and that America doesn't seem keen on bailing you all out and would rather take advantage of the situation for it's own benefit.
