National NDP leadership debate coming up Nov 27 - Island Social Trends

shows a little bit about the candidates for those who havne't heard a word about it, which is probably most.

This is got to be one of the quietest leadership races ever. We're not hearing anything about it in the mainstream media and most of the secondary media. So far the biggest neediest splash about it has been the fact that they wanted to limit what they call 'cis men' From participating, and one candidates commentary that we don't need "Purity tests" Like that anymore. But other than that you hardly hear anything.

Frankly I think Heather McPherson would probably be the best choice for them. She understands and has that working persons mentality but she also appeals enough to the activists that she can probably keep them happy without letting them take over

So far, McPherson is the only one who looks like a leader.

I thought so too, but we haven't seen much.

She's also probably got the best experience to get the ndp out of their hole. She's been there for a lot of their ups and downs. She's a successful ndp in alberta so she's pretty used to winning in hostile territory :) And any recovery of the ndp is going to start in the west, that's where they're most likely to pick up seats stolen back from the libs.  BC alone is quite capable of giving them party status in that regard.

And her 'no purity test' comments will be seen as welcome by many blue collar types.

This time around skills at rebuilding have got to be a major issue for the leader. It's hard to describe exactly how bad the NDP financial situation is right now, it is beyond horrible. And their vote is still currently parked with the liberals and it may take a little bit of work to chisel away enough of that to get official party status. And without official party status they are dead in the water

I just don't see those two having enough horsepower an experience or contacts to really shovel the NDP out from the whole they are in
