paxamericana Posted September 1, 2025 Report Posted September 1, 2025 (edited) I'm genuinely baffled by this. Why in the world would they want to pay for Ottawa's retirement scheme when they could be the richest state in all of North America per GDP. Access to American dollars and lower taxes would do just that alone. So prove me wrong Canucks, why hasn't Alberta left? Oh and before you point to independece, yeah that's never going to work since Alberta does not have sea access to sell the oil in the first place. Alberta would become another Iraq if it ever became a independent country. Since their entire economy would be oil cenctric. My wild guess? Like a typical Canuck, they're too stubborn to be rude to Ottawa. One more thing, being non-American is a mental illness, it's not real, just stop it. Edited September 1, 2025 by paxamericana Quote
August1991 Posted September 1, 2025 Report Posted September 1, 2025 You raise good questions. I wonder too. 1. Alberta and Saskatchewan have no access to oceans. 1a. So, why not dividing BC into north south - as Oregon, California should be? 1b. You Americans divided Virginia. 2. Retirement scheme? 2a. Our CPP/QPP is fully funded. We borrow lower than GDP growth. 2b. You're far too generous with Social Security/Medicare. They are not funded. You borrow faster than GDP growth. 3. Equalization payments. 3a. In Alberta, GDP/capita is twice PEI. Quote

When Quebec wanted to secede it was the Ontarian that paid for them to stay, now the Ontarians are retiring. Which means the Albertans will be paying for the Ontarian and Quebecois. in a provice of only 4million, they cannot be expected to pay for 20 million. Quote

In Canada, we get along - and we also pay our way. ==== The American federal state has too many governments borrowing faster than they can generate tax revenue. Your central government and too many of your state governments are ponzi schemes. Quote
