He is very specifically challenging the concept of birthright citizenship to ILLEGAL immigrants or non-citizens. How does that apply here? It does not apply here directly but it was considered settled law before he arrived. Nobody imagined a president would question it until he did. 19 minutes ago, User said: It is just a fact of life for anyone in general, if you are in the public spotlight in some controversial way, that you will get death threats. That is not Trump's doing or his fault. David French would disagree. He was a right-wing lawyer who debated with Liberals and fought them in the courts all his life. But when he criticized Trump’s candidacy his family’s life changed utterly. 19 minutes ago, User said: I do agree though, that what he says matters, I think it is stupid and dumb, but the point is that it is just silly baseless fearmongering to act like this can actually happen and is anything more than the typical stupid comments he makes. SpankyMcFarland Posted July 17, 2025 Report Posted July 17, 2025 Conservatives are supposed to be, well, conservative, cautious, prudent, frugal. Trump is none of those things although he has been more careful with his own money than the stuff from banks. He’s so reckless and unrestrained. Quote ‘How small we make our worlds. Gather them in, tighten them up into little castles of fear.’

For those who are not Trump devotees like yourself, it's not 'just silly baseless fear mongering'. He's the president of the USA and you're good with 'typical stupid comments'....wow. At least he knows his audience.... Quote

No, it really hasn't been settled law, its foundation is a bit convoluted at best and it was not envisioned that we would later have millions coming across the border illegally as we are today or overstaying their visa, etc... In fact, Trump campaigned on this, so it is no shock or surprise that someone never imagined. This has been a point of contention for folks on the right for some time now. 8 minutes ago, SpankyMcFarland said: David French would disagree. Folks on the right, like Trump, who was shot, are also targets of violence and death threats. It is not right or OK, but it happens. 9 minutes ago, SpankyMcFarland said: Past presidents were more careful about what they said because they knew it carried so much weight. Eh... not really. Trump is uniquely bad, but Biden was close behind and Obama pushed the boundaries from Bush... Quote
