. It’s time for people in the ME to grow up instead of blaming some well-meaning foreigner from 40 years ago.

So the 1953 CIA-MI6 sponsored coup was a well-meaning intervention by foreigners?, as well as Britain exploiting half the middle east for decades last century robbing them of their resources in ME and Africa as well as military regimes in South-Central America supported and fed by US as well as killings in Vietnam in the 60's and 70's and I can go on.

The Shah was a tyrant.

This was 50 years ago. You are talking nonsense. 50 years ago every leader was a tyrant. The Shah was the least tyrant. Most of Europe was under tyrants including part of Germany. Spain was under fascism all these countries by far more advanced than Iran 50 years ago. All of central and South America were under fierce tyrants so was all of Middle East. You expected a democratic leader in Iran in 1970's when 70% of population could not read and write? So much nonsense you say without even thinking or having any background on the situation. Educate yourself before posting on a subject!!

Please. Like Saddam Hussein and the Assads, père et fils, he was a murderous tyrant. It’s scant consolation to the families he tore apart that he was a secular thug rather than a theocratic one and slaughtered fewer of his subjects than the mullahs. There is an effort to sanitize this wicked man’s legacy but most of those yearning for freedom in Iran have no desire for an absolute monarchy either.

Let us begin with some facts. The former shah, who Daftari refers to as the "legitimate ruler of Iran," was a monarch who ruled with an iron fist. His family came to power through a military coup against the Qajar dynasty, and like most classical dictators his regime was rife with corruption, repression and decadence. During his reign he instituted one party rule in Iran, cracked down on free speech, and created the notorious SAVAK secret police force, to target dissidents. The historical record is clear and uncontroversial, yet many are now attempting to use the heinous crimes of the Islamic Republic to whitewash the monarchy. This doesn't stand up to scrutiny. Many of the practices that have become synonymous with the Islamic Republic, such as the airing of televised confessions of political opponentsbegan under the SAVAK. The agency itself was largely kept intact by the Islamic Republic and simply rebranded.

…Iranians on the street have made clear in their chants that it is possible to oppose both the past dictatorships and the current Islamic Republic. One of these chants states "Neither Monarchy, nor [Supreme] Leader, [we want] Democracy and Equality’

….We should recognize that just like 1978, Iranians are beyond looking for an apology from anyone. They are ready for real freedom, not overthrowing a supreme leader to reinstitute a shah. Our goal should be to ensure that they succeed.

You are a big liar. You are likely one of those former Iranian left wing traitors who helped the mullahs with armed rebellion against the progressive Shah's government and then once the mullahs turned against you then you fled the country after being a part to destroy it and sought refuge status not in Russia/Soviet Union where you had your alliance but the West. Seriously all those killed since and they are millions and destruction of that country which was developing fast nd was prosperous under the Shah are your deeds and faults.

Though it is true that a small portion of Iranians may wish neither monarch or the Shah but thre lying author who is likely a leftist did not mention the fact that a great majority of Iranians want monarchy and in particular the son of late Shah (God bless his soul) to return to Iran as the legitimate king. Iranians from all classes and ages mostly females are on streets guarded by heavily armed mercenaries of mullahs calling for the return of the king while under threat of violence, rape or death by heavily armed thugs hired by the mullahs.

The regime of mullahs will collapse soon. The leftists are hated by the nation because of their past betrayals and the only popular alternative is Reza Pahlavi, the son of the late Shah (God bless his soul).
