So it's law but you don't need to comply because we won't enforce it and people can always claim the GST back from the CRA anyway so.....

Literally billions of dollars have been spent by businesses to get ready for this, including small businesses who really couldn't afford to have the it guys come in and make these changes for them to their software or who had to sink in dozens of hours to do it themselves to make sure they did it right and didn't exclude something they shouldn't. Some businesses announced they would be shutting down early for the holiday season to avoid having to deal with this.

And after all that the government pulls this crap? That is absolutely horrible

Retailers are tearing their hair out trying to figure out what is taxable and what isn't, it's so damn complicated. They have to figure it all out then enter it into all their software for what, three months and change it all back? They already have enough headaches trying to deal with the postal and other strikes, competing with on line sales etc.
