CdnFox Posted September 13, 2024 Report Posted September 13, 2024 B.C. will scrap ‘consumer carbon tax’ if Ottawa drops federal backstop: Eby | Globalnews.ca Wow - first the feds and now Eby, who was one of the last holdouts, is promising he'll scrap the tax if the feds do. This is a huge blow to justin. virtually everyone is crapping on the tax, now that we know it does nothing for climate change. It's quite the slap in the face. But it looks like canada is going to go carbon tax free after the next federal election. Funny thing is Eby said just a couple of months ago it would be impossible to scrap the tax in bc because the gov't makes so much money from it, so he wouldn't consider it. Moonlight Graham Posted September 13, 2024 Report Posted September 13, 2024 (edited) NDP seems to be trying to create a wedge issue with the Liberals here and try to nab official opposition status next election maybe. This helps the CPC in their "axe the tax" mantra but i guess the NDP don't see themselves as in the running to take over their wide lead. Well I think from a realistic point of view everyone would agree it's impossible for them to form government. As you say the best they could hope for would be to become the official opposition ahead of the liberals and the bloc And possibly if the liberals collapse position themselves for a run at the top the election after that or something He says he's going to present a new plan, so maybe that's what they're thinking. They don't normally bother coming up with a lot of policy because nobody's ever going to expect them to win. So maybe they're going to try and make their entire policy around their new climate plan and try and be the only climate party standing Quote There are two types of people in this world: Those who can extrapolate from incomplete data
