CdnFox Posted May 24, 2024 Report Posted May 24, 2024 (edited) Toronto MP Kevin Vuong asks Poilievre to let him join Conservatives | CP24.com OTTAWA -- Independent Toronto MP Kevin Vuong says he is asking Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre to let him join the Tory caucus, and intends to seek a nomination for the party in a Greater Toronto Area riding. Vuong said in an interview today that he recently sent a letter to Poilievre and also informed the party's caucus chair, Ontario MP Scott Reid, of his wishes. The MP for Spadina-Fort York ran as a Liberal candidate in the 2021 election but the party dropped him days before the vote, saying he failed to inform them of a withdrawn sexual assault charge. Vuong still won the contest and says that while his time in the House of Commons got off to a "rough start," he thinks he has made an impact. He has voted alongside the Conservatives on a range of issues and he says he took out a party membership last November. He says he hasn't spoken directly to Poilievre about his wishes, and Conservative party spokeswoman Sarah Fischer says the Tories are not considering bringing him into caucus. CdnFox Posted May 24, 2024 Author Report Posted May 24, 2024 This will be interesting. The sexual assault charge seems like it was pretty bogus. And for a guy to win a riding in Ontario like that without actually being part of a party is pretty impressive. To run as an independent and win takes some pretty impressive horsepower within that community. If he is accepted it could signal that the CPC is trying to look slightly more center than right of center these days. Sounds like it would be a fairly easy win. Moonlight Graham Posted May 24, 2024 Report Posted May 24, 2024 (edited) People who switch from Liberals to CPC, especially these days, I see as questionable, since they are so opposite ideologically and policy-wise. What could have changed within his mind since 2021 to want to be a CPC member instead of wanting to join the NDP? The guy is probably just looking for power and wants to sit with a winner, no different than in 2021. Given the sexual assault thing also AND failing to report it, the guy sounds like a POS. In conclusion, he would make a fine Member of Parliament. What could have changed within his mind since 2021 to want to be a CPC member instead of wanting to join the NDP? Well they say a conservative is a liberal who's been mugged. There's a lot of people who believe in the ideology of the NDP party but when they actually experience it they realize that maybe it's not such a good thing. Of course it's also possible that he's a bit of an opportunist. Perhaps he thought it would be easier to win as a liberal in the last election and now that that's not an option he's hoping to fly under the CPC banner. Going 100% alone is a tough roe to hoe and you're more likely to win as a CPC than you are as an NDP right now in Ontario. I don't know much about this guy other than his name seems familiar and I can't remember why 1 Quote There are two types of people in this world: Those who can extrapolate from incomplete data
