Geoffrey,

Canuck: Did Chretien actually have a homeless advisor? I can almost believe this.

I was hoping to give you the story of the Chretien and his homeless friend from a news source but I couldn't find one.

In any case Chretien began relating tales of regularly chatting with a homeless friend (1996?), with whom he had spent time on the streets talking about homelessness and the economy.

It all sounded like a nice story until some reporters discovered that it was not true and there was no homeless friend.

Later on in the House opposition MP's would make references to Chretien's imaginary homeless friend when asking him questions.

Is this like the character Jimmy Stewart played, Elwood P. Dowd in the movie Harvey? I vaguely remember this about Chretien story, but then again not surprising.

I nominate the guy that does the TV commercial "hands in your pocket" He could put his hand in the pockets of the taxpayers. - :D

I thought that was a liberal campaign ad....imagine my surprise when they kept running after the election.

They would have fit right in with Paul Martin's promises he made during the campaign. Promises I might add that he had no intention of fulfilling. They were simply meant to draw votes just like Chretien's RED BOOK, full of promises that never got delivered, and we still hvae the Sea King's falling out of the sky, risking the lives of our brave servicemen & women. I'm sorry to say but getting aboard one of those death-traps would be one order I would disobey.

Thing about a real scary situation, electing Jack Layton as Prime Minister. All of the promises he made he had every intention of delivering on. We think Canadian's are over-taxed now, LOOK OUT, because if anything that tax bite would increase astronomically in order to pay for all the socialist policies Layton wants the taxpayers to pay for. Universal day-care? My thought is that when my wife and I decided to have children, we looked after them by my wife staying at home since I was the one making the larger income at the time. We simply got by on less so that my children would be brought up by us as parent's not farming them off to a stranger to rear. Why should I be asked now to pay for someone else's day-care so mommy & daddy can carry on with their careers. Let them do what my wife and I did, and bring up their own children. No wonder children today have no morals and values, when mommy & daddy don't care enough to stay home and bring up their own children. They are too busy colloecting material things and teaching their children that they have no time for them.

I think that there's a lot more people who are looking for splendor over their families than people would admit. Watch any financial show and they talk about the ever mounting debt of Canadians and how so many are living much too far beyond their means. If the low interest rates disappear, many of these people would go bankrupt almost overnight. I think a fair amount of people send their kids into daycare so they can enjoy more splendor. However, I do also know a fair amount of people where two parents work similarly low paying jobs and need both just to keep their heads above water.

With the Winter Olympics in full swing, I nominate Eddie the Eagle for Liberal leader.

He could get the party soaring and send them to new heights. :)

Wow, the state of this thread is similar to the state of the Liberal leadership race.

A complete and utter joke!

I nominate Shoop.

He'll take over the Liberals and merge them with the CPC, therefore creating an all-powerful centre-right party that will be challenged by a measly 29-seat NDP opposition and a party based solely in one province...

Merge the Liberals and CPC and change the name of the NDP to the Labour Party of Canada....hmmm

I see we're all inhere hucking it up Con style.... Its always best not to be too confidant with these types of things, your boy got in with the slimmest of minoritys and I wouldn't think he can do it again if the Liberals get someone half decent. Carry on though if you must!

Shakey,

That appears to be a very big *IF* at the moment.

Who among the sorry lot that isn't running away from the job would you consider to be *half-decent*??????

Belinda, Brison, Ignatieff, Rae.

btw, let's dispel this slimmest of minorities crap too. *Your boy* Trudeau got two more seats than Stanfield in 1972. So how exactly is Harper getting 21 more seats than Martin the *slimmest* of minorities?

PS: I will not seek the leadership of the Liberal Party of Canada and if drafted I will decline the *honour*. :D

I hope none of those people... I'm hoping that McKenna and Tobin were sand bagging.

And ok... 2nd slimmest minority?

Shakey, I agree with you that none of the four I mentioned are great quality. But they have to be considered the *frontrunners* at this point. I don't believe McKenna or Tobin were sandbagging. Only time will tell on that one though...

Actually it would probably be th *fifth* slimmest minority after: 1925, 1957, 1962 and 1972.

Howcome when someone gives their oppinions everyone respects it and doesnt resort to insults. But when I give my opinion, because im the "new guy" you guys hassle me. Thats not fair.

By the absence of responses there sure aren't many candidates for the lib leadership...heard it was a pretty good gig lots of perks and kickbacks.

The perks (kickbacks?) for Liberal leaders comes when they are working out of the PMO. They don't get the same thing with a party in massive debt and only being the Official Leader of the Opposition.

Any liberals in here could do the job. After the beating they take from the Cons on the forum, the least they could do is get paid hundreds of thousands of dollars for it..

They'd have to clean up the debt and live in rural Alberta and Saguenay for a year before even thinking about a majority... ;)
