robosmith Posted April 11, 2024 Report Posted April 11, 2024 House Republicans are in chaos again as conservatives derail a key surveillance bill Quote A band of hard-right agitators, backed by former President Donald Trump, revolted against GOP leaders on Wednesday, blocking renewal of a powerful surveillance program that is set to expire next week and throwing the GOP-led House into chaos once again. Nineteen conservatives broke with Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., and his leadership team and voted down a “rule,” yet another example of a minority of Republicans using the otherwise procedural vote to prevent the House from debating their own party's legislation. It marked the seventh time this Congress — and the fourth under Johnson — that Republicans have taken down their own rule, according to a review by NBC News. Given the party's minuscule margin, Wednesday's Republican revolt effectively derailed — for now — carefully crafted compromise legislation to reauthorize the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act's Section 702. They might was well elect Trump as Speaker. 🤮 Quote
gatomontes99 Posted April 11, 2024 Report Posted April 11, 2024 I like how the democratic party calls democratic debate over legislation chaos. The implications being that the democratic party would rather everyone fall in lock step with the benevolent leader like all good subjects should. Quote

It WAS a Republicon BILL and NBC News is NOT "the democratic party." Democrats under Pelosi NEVER brought a bill for a vote UNTIL they had the votes to pass it. Quote

They are the propaganda arm of the Democrat party the only Republicans they let on their network are the ones that hate Trump and are never used for anything other than bashing Trump. They don't ask Liz Cheney about policy, only about how much she hates Trump. Quote

Waiting until they have the votes, only means NOT proceeding with bills that have inadequate support. Duh Repblicons look inept when they hold a vote and IT FAILS. Waiting and/or trashing a bill with insufficient support is NOT "rather everyone fall in lock step with the benevolent leader like all good subjects should" Democrats negotiate BEFORE the vote, NOT after it FAILS and wastes everyone's time. The latter is the meaning of CHAOS. You obviously don't understand how a well run House works. Quote
