White Doors Posted September 19, 2007 Report Posted September 19, 2007 I'm not an employee but I've been working forn the Globe for over 15 years. The rank and file are union members and they have one of the most closed minded and highest paid shops in Canada. Editorially the paper is quite centrist with a definite pro business slant. And it is decidedly the best paper in Canada. Are you joking? The post is far and away the best paper in Canada. it's not even close. Higgly Posted September 19, 2007 Report Posted September 19, 2007 I find the Globe and Mail quite balanced. And I'm a non-partisan (I don't really even call myself right or left). It's very pro-business, and some may mistake that as being right wing. The Globe editorially supported the invasion of Iraq. This is straight out of the neocon playbook. What are your criteria? Quote "We have seen the enemy and he is us!". Pogo (Walt Kelly).

geoffrey Posted September 20, 2007 Report Posted September 20, 2007 The Globe editorially supported the invasion of Iraq. This is straight out of the neocon playbook. What are your criteria? It also editorially supported same-sex marriage. Neocon there too right? It's support of the invasion of Iraq was no different than Chretien's hesitant "we support you, but we're not going" message. That might even be pushing it. Was Chretien a neocon too? Quote RealRisk.ca - (Latest Post: Prosecutors have no "Skin in the Game") --
uOttawaMan Posted September 20, 2007 Report Posted September 20, 2007 I'm sure if this thread goes long enough, the general consensus will be reached that every paper in Canada is in fact, a joke. M.Dancer Posted September 20, 2007 Report Posted September 20, 2007 The Globe editorially supported the invasion of Iraq. This is straight out of the neocon playbook. What are your criteria? The globe ran editorials both in favour and against the US invasion. If you are looking for a paper that will always support your own views unequivically, you're looking in the wrong country. M.Dancer Posted September 20, 2007 Report Posted September 20, 2007 Are you joking? The post is far and away the best paper in Canada. it's not even close. The Post is a very good paper, but it has problems. It doesn't have as depth in theior international bureaus and their local news coverage is simply the same copy as the Canwest city papers. But if I couldn't get the Mop and Pail I would certainly read the Pest. Quote RIGHT of SOME, LEFT of OTHERS If it is a choice between them and us, I choose us
Higgly Posted September 20, 2007 Report Posted September 20, 2007 The globe ran editorials both in favour and against the US invasion. If you are looking for a paper that will always support your own views unequivically, you're looking in the wrong country. The editorials at the time leading up to the invasion were all in favour, as was the constant howling from columnists like Margaret Wente, John Ibbitson and Marcus Gee. Fortunately Margaret Wente has gone back to what she knows best: antiques and kitchen renovation. However, Gee is now in Asia and Ibbitson in Washington. Both are right wing extremists. The Post is a howling chicken little. If it couldn't print the word root "terror" (-ist, -ism, war on...), its front page would often be only half full. It would probably fill the empty space with pics of Steve. But what the heck, empty is as empty does. Quote "We have seen the enemy and he is us!". Pogo (Walt Kelly).

Obviously you've suffered a rather severe jolt, resulting in a profound misalignment on the political scale. To characterize Gee and Ibbitson as "rightwing extremists," one would have to start from the position that Stalin was a left leaning moderate. Quote

All that proves is they have a balanced approach to opinion. As I said before, if all you want is a newspaper that agrees with you 100%, you won't find that in Canada...heck, you might not even find that in russia anymore....try Syria.
