CdnFox Posted March 3, 2024 Report Posted March 3, 2024 This week, Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe upped the ante in his tilt against the carbon levy when he threatened to go beyond his province's refusal to collect the federal levy on natural gas home heating, and stop gathering it on all fossil fuels. That's because of how Ottawa responded to Moe's initial gambit — which included passing a bill to legalize Saskatchewan's decision to disobey the federal carbon price law — by stating it will withhold the carbon levy rebates that are supposed to be worth $1,504 for a family of four in the province over the coming year. "If Saskatchewan people stop getting the rebate entirely, Saskatchewan should stop paying the carbon tax entirely," Moe said in a statement Thursday. "No rebate equals no tax." "This is uncharted territory," Leach told the Star. Unless the federal government finds a way to respond and prove the move is a legal dead end — or Saskatchewan backs down — other provinces antagonistic to the federal carbon levy, like Alberta, could look to follow suit, he said. CdnFox Posted March 3, 2024 Author Report Posted March 3, 2024 This is quickly reaching the point of being a constitutional crisis. It'll be interesting to see where this goes - this could be a very pivotal moment for canada Quote "That which doesn't kill me... Had better start running."
ExFlyer Posted March 4, 2024 Report Posted March 4, 2024 Won't happen so, nothing will happen. Quote You are entitled to your opinion, but you are not entitled to tell me what mine should be.

Already happening - they are currently not collecting the carbon tax on heating fuel. That's why trudeau is saying no rebates. So that ball is already rolling, we're past the 'threat' stage. So either the libs back down and allow them to not collect on heating fuels in which case every province except bc will jump on that bandwagon OR they keep the rebate cheques and moe either backs down or cancels the carbon tax altogether, and then who knows what. So it's happening - the question is where does it end? Quote "That which doesn't kill me... Had better start running."
