It may not be the rediscovery of elder wisdom but it does seem to value wisdom on the whole. And I'm not commenting on the value of the content itself, just the overall assumption that using figures and arguments are a good thing. 4. McLuhan would disagree. Imagine giving adjoining pre industrial villages different media including weapons, transportation... then visiting decades later. The theory is that their cultures would move apart. 1. It's fair to say society has the very same basic needs. It's how to best meet them that matters. 2. The high road certainly wasn't taken after 9/11 but I note the Americans tried to advise Israel not to succumb to their rage the way America did. As for COVID, whatever else it might have exacerbated much of what happened in reaction to it was just a repeat of what happened during the Spanish Flu. Society had been there before. 3. I suppose. Figures lie and liars figure don't forget. 4. Around here it was common for governments to do something similar to 1st Nations people - make things 'better' for one village but not the next and so on up and down the coast. The hope was to exploit differences to divide and conquer and assimilate all of them but its not working out quite like it was hoped.
