Fifty-six per cent of respondents to the latest national survey from Abacus Data said Trudeau “should step down” when asked if he should run for office again. That’s compared with 27 per cent who said Trudeau should stay, and 17 per cent who were not sure. Of those who said they voted Liberal in the 2021 federal election, 28 per cent agreed it’s time for Trudeau to leave, while 52 per cent said the prime minister should run again. CdnFox Posted August 25, 2023 Author Report Posted August 25, 2023 This is one of several similar holes and articles that we have seen over the last few months. It would appear that the Liberal Party insiders who are against Trudeau are deliberately encouraging this kind of poll in order to try and pressure the prime minister to step down before the next election. They always appear in left leaning sources with strong connections to the Liberal Party. I think there is a strong element inside the Liberal Party that is desperate to get rid of Trudeau before he costs them a ton of seats. Even if they are resigned to losing the next election they don't want to lose any more seats than necessary, and there is a very real chance of a PP landslide. In any case their window of opportunity is closing. If he doesn't resign by the end of the year, there would barely be enough time for them to choose a new leader, and for that leader to organize the party so that they'd be ready for the next election. Not many leaders have managed to pull off getting themselves completely ready for the next election in two years and they would have less than two years as of January 1st 1 Quote "That which doesn't kill me... Had better start running."
CdnFox Posted August 25, 2023 Author Report Posted August 25, 2023 Oh and i forgot to point this out: According to his firm’s latest poll, 38 per cent of respondents said they would vote Conservative if an election were held today, versus 26 per cent for the Liberals, which Coletto said beats only his last poll as the worst level of support for the Liberals since Trudeau took office as prime minister in 2015. The survey also had the NDP at 19 per cent support, ahead of four per cent respectively for the Greens and far-right People’s Party. So that's a majority gov't for PP if it panned out that way. AND there's reason to believe the libs would suffer from lower voter turn out. Quote "That which doesn't kill me... Had better start running."
Nexii Posted August 25, 2023 Report Posted August 25, 2023 I think the Libs lose even bigger if they get a new leader so close to the next election. It'd be Kim Campbell all over again. It's also rare to oust a party leader when they didn't lose seats in the previous election. The Liberals probably should have gotten a new leader a year ago, seems they banked on CPC having another weak leader. Not that PP is especially strong but he'll likely be enough for an electorate tired of Trudeau. He's at least aware that he has to come across as empathetic and likeable to win in Canada unlike Scheer/O'Toole. Quote

Well there is a long Held belief in the Liberal Party that as a strategy you hold on to power as absolutely long as you can no matter what. So Justin is probably thinking along those lines. Face it, it is possible that tomorrow a secret investigation will reveal that Pierre really does eat babies and sleeps with chimpanzees on the side, and maybe he'll have a shot again. If he gives up now then he definitely won't. If he really wants to screw the party over he'll wait till the end of 2024 and then resign. You'll have bragging rights as one of the longer serving prime ministers, and one that was never defeated. And then the Liberals will lose the next election because they can't elect a leader fast enough for them to get organized but it won't be Trudeau's fault anymore. He can do book tours and make millions while he finds a new boyfriend to replace Sophie. Quote "That which doesn't kill me... Had better start running."
