De Anza College, a community college in Cupertino, California, allegedly retaliated against Tabia Lee after she objected to multiple campus inclusion policies. She told Inside Higher Ed that she lost her job after she objected to the college’s land acknowledgments for an Indigenous tribe, attempted to bring a "Jewish inclusion" event to campus, declined to join a "socialist network," refused to use the terms "Latinx" and "Filipinx" and questioned why the word "black" was capitalized but not "white." "I no longer participate in gender pronouns because I find that the same toxic ideologies around race ideologies are now being advanced under gender ideologies; I also find that the constant obsession with pronouns and declaration of pronouns causes deep discomfort for individuals who identify as gender-fluid or who struggle with gender dysphoria," she said. And you wonder why Californians are so stupid. Community colleges at least provide paying careers with minimal cost. Those Universities charge six figures for Lesbian Dance Theory degrees, and that won't get you a burger flipping job. No wonder Californians are the dumbest people in America. Quote

Do you know why they charge so much? There is an answer and it is not because they simply want to screw someone over? Hint.... it has to do with what they pay employees after they retire. Quote

There is only ONE reason why colleges (and doctors and hospitals) are able to price gouge the public. ONLY ONE. The Government subsidizes colleges with welfare and student loans. Without those, colleges would be FORCED to base their tuition on what regular people could afford and NOT the deep pockets of government. Budgetary concerns about retirements is something EVERY company has to deal with. It doesn't help that professors WHO RARELY EVEN TEACH CLASSES, make such huge salaries and are tenured. Let an average independent company pull that crap and it's out of business. Edited March 17, 2023 by reason10 Quote

Let an average independent company pull that crap and it's out of business. They are PUBLIC sector employees. The Public sector pensions in CA are disproportionately generous. With that coming out of your budget.. you have to make it up somewhere else. Now combine that with student loans which are easy to get and the environment is set for having prices increase. However, the pension system is what drives up the cost of labor especially for those staff that are tenured or have been there a long time. On the converse side of that.. in Nevada (where I live and work), the pension system is not nearly as generous and getting tenure is not nearly as easy as it in CA. Quote

AGAIN, management of ANY company, public sector or private sector, still has to deal with retirements and pensions. Not all colleges and universities are public sector, by the way. There are a lot of private colleges doing very well, and graduating much better educated grads. The student loans and other government welfare are what make colleges public sector institutions in the first place. Edited March 17, 2023 by reason10 Quote

They did it to themselves. They made the cost of labor too expensive and are now passing the cost on to the consumer thinking that they will pay the cost no matter how high it gets. Quote

Again, this was ONLY made possible by the government subsidizing bad business practices with student loans, Pell Grants and other WELFARE which shields the college from market forces. Take all that away, and you'll be amazed at how quickly colleges cut the fat in order to keep the doors open. A little bit of private sector free market capitalism goes a long way. Quote

The overly generous CA public sector pension system predates what you speak of. It came about in 1972. The Clinton Administration brought about student loans being easier to get. When I taught at University of Nevada.. I asked why we had such a hard time getting quality staff (no matter the dept or task). The answer was that we could not compete with the overly generous benefits and pensions in CA. Candidates would choose Cal St. Fullerton over us for that exact reason. Quote

Kinda hard to achieve a market share when the country's taxpayers are subsidizing your competition. Quote
