A way to control speeding

Recommended Posts

Hate to get your good looking car banged up or yourself possibly badly injured or killed by idiot drivers who have no respect for the law or people in general.

The New York State troupers have created a speeders NIGHTMARE.

Case in question- a complaining Canadian speeding 35-km/h over the speed limit in that State was hit with an $180 U.S. speeding ticket.

But two months later received a second $300 U.S. speeding ticket due to a new State law called the 'Drivers Responsibility Program' in which if you lose six demerit points and it's your second time caught speeding you are hit with this second fine and in this case totals about $565.00 Canadian.

Is this what we need in Ontario to help keep those idiot drivers broke so they can't buy gas or do you think a program like this is nothing more than a simple 'cash grab'.

Personally I think this is what Ontario highways needs to make our driving experiences a little bit more pleasant and possibly reduce your defensive save driving emergency manouvres, your car or even your life.

In Ontario, if you're driving 30kph over the posted limit, you are subject to a fine of $210.00.

In addition, the cop giving the ticket has the discretion to add on other charges like "Reckless driving", "Endangerment" etc.

Considering that cops take your license to their cruiser and radio in to make sure you're a valid driver, he also has indirect access to your driving record.

Because of this, a friend of mine (great guy, lousy driver) had several extra charges added to what otherwise would have been a simple speeding charge.

When he protested to the cop, he was told that with a record like his he's lucky that the cop didn't pull his license then and there.

He was doing about 25 over, and ended up paying close to $500.00, which included a hefty charge for not wearing his seatbelt.

But you also have to consider that the most irresponsible drivers are like career criminals; they are not considering the consequences while performing the act.

There is far bigger problems with our roads than speeding.

Look at many European highways, higher speedlimits, less accidents, why? Because they invest in their roads.

Of course anything over 100km/h is dangerous when the trans-canada is potholed and run down throughout the country. I heard on the radio a few days back about these truckers that drive through the US instead on coast to coast trips to save wear and tear on their vehicles.

Stop blaming the speeders, those driving 20 under in the left lane are FAR FAR FAR more dangerous than someone who is probably a confident drivers paying attention to what they are doing.

No doubt thought that I agree with you in some cases, there are idiot speeders out there, I see them everyday. But I've yet to see how a fine has ever fixed someone's common sense issues, it just hurts some of us that have places to go and drive a reasonable speed SAFELY, even if its 10-15k over the limit.

Yeah because, as anyone knows, they way to find out who the good, responsible driver are is to just ask any of them.

Where do you have to go that's so damn important that a few minutes or seconds will make such a big difference? Unless your an ambulance driver or other emergency first responder, you're not that important.

No, he's right. Speed alone is not what kills. There are some roads, in some conditions, where going an extra 20-30km is no problem at all. It is drivers who tailgate, speed in unsafe conditions, and switch lanes unsafely who are the major problem.
