Argus Posted April 30, 2020 Report Posted April 30, 2020 Dianne Francis is not exactly some raving liberal - rather far from it. Today in the Post she suggest the problems in the US between blue and red states are growing, as is the resentment and contempt they have for each other, exacerbated by Trump and US cable news. According to her the red states (Republicans) want smaller government, no abortion, more guns and more Jesus, and an end to entitlements but the richer, more populous blue states are pro-choice, want tougher gun laws, and support public health care, gay rights and strong government. The underlying national threat is that blue America is the richest, most populous and most Democratic portion of the United States, but it is under-represented and governed by a Republican president and Senate, due to years of excessive gerrymandering and a thoroughly undemocratic Electoral College voting system. Democrats won the 2016 election by three million votes, but less than a few hundred thousand votes in three states handed Trump his victory. Regional disparities have always characterized the United States, but the two Americas are becoming increasingly irreconcilable and disenfranchised. Besides the 15 states that have formed health-care coalitions, another seven states fall into the blue state category: three in New England, along with Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico and Virginia, which have voted Democrat in three out of the last four presidential elections. If included in a revised map, blue America is richer and bigger than the rest of the country. Combined, they generate more taxes for federal coffers than the rest of the country and get little respect from their federal government. Either that changes, or the regime changes, or the country will. As COVID-19 continues to bear down globally, and if nothing mitigates or heals the culture clash south of the border, the disease’s biggest casualty may become America’s union. https://nationalpost.com/opinion/diane-francis-could-covid-19-spell-the-end-of-the-american-union?video_autoplay=true Quote "A liberal is someone who claims to be open to all points of view — and then is surprised and offended to find there are other points of view.” William F Buckley
godzilla Posted April 30, 2020 Report Posted April 30, 2020 red states don't want entitlements? if i had a nickel for every older republican who relied entirely on their old age security pension... and blue states "bail out" red states every year. blue states should just turn the money taps off to the feds. small government! anti tax! see how the red states like it when fed money dries up. This is very deceitful, as usual, mainly because you were duped by the disingenuousness of @Argus pro-Dem propaganda here. Yes, here where he forgot to mention that the wealthiest Americans, INDIVIDUALLY, tend to be the older citizens of the USA. As such humans traditionally vote, GOP Republican, since they got older/wiser then realized the Dem's evils. And remember, it is in fact today's Millennials who are shaping up as lazy shiftless youth, taking out deadend student loans ---then shamelessly trying to live off of their parents estates/assets earned via hardwork during the 70's-90's and sunset during 2002-'06. Those same lazy shiftless Millennial youth, vote Democrat. Edited May 1, 2020 by Tdot Quote

Perhaps it would be better to say they don't want to PAY for entitlements. They basically want no taxation, but they also want their social security and medicare and a whopping big military. And they want government to leave people alone - except for banning them from having abortions.
