Harper is making me homesick for Preston. Anyone who can make Preston look attractive to an urban intellectual from Toronto, really is a poor electoral choice.

And I do have somewhat of a history of voting PC so I'm not just dissing him for being conservative.

Bottom line is that if you can't sell Harper in Toronto and Southern Ontario, the Conservative party is doomed to remain a 'regional rump' party and by the same token, four more years of Liberals in Ottawa.

Good point. Maybe those urban intellectuals from Toronto need someone more refined, sophisticated and intellectual, say, more like Mike Harris. Or Dalton McGuinty.

.

Brilliant.

Who refers to Southern Ontario as a political unit anwyays?

Gotta love Mad Michael referring to himself as an 'urban intellectual'. Dude, do you work at a Starbucks or a Chapters?

I'd take Harper's honesty and integrity over the liberal's any day. Harper will take the CPC into the next election, if does not gain any more seats or loses some, he will voluntarily step down. Same for Martin I would think, if he only gets another minority government he should to step down too.

If people can only base their opinion of someone based on his attire that is sad. It would be a change if people actually read the CPC policy document and debated actual issues, not what the media or spin artists tell us it is.

What about Layton, if he doesn't gain any seats should he step down too?

Even if Harper gains seats, but still loses the election, he will step down.

As much as he deserves a second chance, he owes it to the party to step down if he can't win in a second election as leader.

I suppose you right, I imagine he would step down. Harper is a fiscal and economic guy, straight up, guess that doesn't resonate with the voters, they prefer corruption etc.

Part of Harper's and the party's problem is the lack of ability to get the message out and tell the voters what they really stand for. They can't control the media either, what they need is a strong media campaign and a good offensive. If there's one thing the liberals are darn good at its runnning a smear attack campaign, they are masters at the game. The CPC havn't learned yet how to combat this.

cheers

The cons will never be able to control the media. That is pretty much irrelevant though. They need to win overwhelmingly in the grassroots and on the issues.

The Liberals are so absolutely desperate these days they are trying to make a story out of one of Harper's aides buying a couple kids a blizzard in order to downplay a story about a convicted felon, whose acts were committed for the FLQ 'cause', building a storge unit with gun rack for the future GG's personal residence.

Sadly for the Liberals, no media outlet bought this bait and switch. The CBC basically ignored both stories. Thankfully the Toronto Star, CTV and Globe and Mail exist as viable options for Canadians looking for news.

Harper is making headway in the grassroots these days. The Environics poll is solid evidence of that. Keep up the good work Stephen.
