It's a little late to start blaming Chretien don't ya think!  He is long gone.

Why don't they throw in Trudeau while they are at it.

Yeah, I can barely remember last year either...but it has nothing to do with selective memory, it's more than likely all the drinking.

Both of them should bear the responsibility for this theft of taxpayer's money. Chretien for setting up this program in the first place to placate Quebec, and Martin because he was the Finance Minister and should have known where our money was going. Martin was either incompetent or ignored what was going on and just let it happen. Either way he was responsible far more than he would have Canadian's believe.

For all those who are sitting back believing that Gomery is going to make these big revelations and point fingers at those at the top, I think you are all going to be sadly disappointed. When have you ever seen a politician held responsible for theft and incompetence? If they could be held up to public scrutiny and made to be responsible for incompetence or outright theft, all politicians would fit into that category. Since politicians know that they are above the law, they have no fear of ever being held truly accountable to the people. Sure we get to turf them to the curb at the next trip to the polls, big deal, and besides that many Canadian's have extremely short memories, especially when being bribed with your own money, just as Martin is doing with all these funding announcements right across Canada. Besides the fact that the more Quebec whines the more Ottawa gives them. They woulkd be stupid to leave, but I'll be glad to hold the door open for them, and close it firmly behind them. When they leave they can also take with them the Acadian whiners in New Brunswick.

We get the government we deserve and for those staunch Liberal supporters, too stupid to realize that the people you voted into office are nothing but a corrupt, bunch of thieves and liars, don't start crying when all of these promises come home to roost, and another round of cuts in services is announced after they get back into power with a majority. You should be asking yourselves, "Where did he get all thins money he is sprinking around Canada, when less than six months ago, there was no money for anything, the cupboard was bare."

The question asked was: Who should take responsibility for activities uncovered by the Gomery Commission [Rotate] Prime Minister Paul Martin, former Prime Minister Jean Chretien, both or none of them?

The question is poorly worded and I suspect the French version lacks the ambiguous nuance of the English version.

When one says "take responsibility" in English, it could also mean "to be responsible to change or fix". There is also the idea that the captain of a ship is responsible for what happens on board.

I would read nothing special into these poll results.

yeah its not that clear, in french that could be:

"Qui selon vous est responsable des activités découverte par la comission gomery"

or it could also be translate this way:

"Qui devrait prendre la responsabilité pour les activités découverte par la commission gomery"

I thought of "assumer la responsabilité" which carries with it a sense of guilt.
