A lot of you people have it all wrong.

It is the Layton New Democrats who may be pulling the plug on the Liberals after the budget vote, that is if the Harperites haven't got cold feet by then, as they start reading the tea leaves, and their future, under their Reform/ Canadian Alliance/Fraser Institute/Republican wanna be Steevie dude!

Cunning. Pass the budget ("to get things done for Canadians") then have a secret deal with the tories to bring down the government to "Oppose Liberal Corruption". The NDP are playing this brilliantly, it seems.

Parliament Seat Prediction:

Conservatives 110

Liberals 99

Bloc 68

NDP 31.

I don't believe a "secret deal" would even be necessary; they know the CPC and BQ will be up for bringing down the gov't whenever they get a shot.

However, doesn't the Liberal government have to hang on long enough for the NDP's budget amendments to be put in place? I thought the budget deal had conditional terms contingent upon surpluses at the end of the year, and so forth. Is the NDP's deal iron clad once (if) the vote passes on Thursday?

In any case, I do agree: the NDP is doing a very good job playing the hand they've been dealt.

All the deals that Martin is running around the country handing out are conditional on economic performance and surplus figures. That includes the $4.6 for the NPD, the McGuinty deal, etc, etc, etc,. The only deal it doesn't include is the Atlantic Accord.

The deal the NDP made specified that they would prop up the government on all confidence matters before the House until such time as the budget receives royal assent. That could be a very long time considering the 04/05 budget is still in the Senate.

The NDP will be stringing out their little day in the sun for absolutely as long as they can. No matter what, they know that they will never form the govt in Canada.

It's one of the very very few times that they've had any relevance at all.

The government should do something.
