blue_eyed_demon1 Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 And you say you were never a high achiever and you have other priorities? So do we. And that's why people don't get their homework done. And that's why people are on welfare. It's all about priorities. Opposing work because your lazy is one thing. My other priorities have been my professional career, which I got started in early. Not sitting around doing nothing then whining about homework. Everyone has time to do the hour at night, get out from in front of the TV or put the joint down for an hour or two. oh my gosh that's what I'm SAYING! you can't brand EVERYONE ELSE as LAZY because YOU weren't. wtf is that? self pity? the whole "i had to work and i had an excuse- what's yours" deal? Give it UP! Quote
geoffrey Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 Step back and consider the possibility that British Columbia (and possibly other jurisdictions) seriously has a systemic education problem that needs to be addressed. We are probably just hearing from a small proportion of the population. There must be tons of other voices that are not yet heard. These students are doing the best they can to articulate their concerns. If this is the best students can articulate concerns, I have serious doubts about the capabilities of BC's education system. These aren't concerns about the system. These are concerns about a homework assignment some kids don't want to do. One thing that I find very exciting about hearing from these students is that they are not asking for more money to be injected into education. They are asking for better quality service.Just wait until we hear from the unions. No actually they want to take out a competitive advantage they get when they enter the workforce. If they spent as much time on the assignment as fighting it, they'd all get A's. It's a scary reflection upon the next wave of workers into our labour pool. "But I don't waaannnnttt to." Yikes. oh my gosh that's what I'm SAYING! you can't brand EVERYONE ELSE as LAZY because YOU weren't. wtf is that? self pity? the whole "i had to work and i had an excuse- what's yours" deal? Give it UP! I still did my homework. I didn't complain that the system was broken because it required me to do a completely acceptable, practical assignment. Now go do your homework. You'd be done by now. Quote RealRisk.ca - (Latest Post: Prosecutors have no "Skin in the Game") --

You'd be done by now. Honey I was done MY homework days ago- but let's step back. You haven't even DONE portfolio- and your giving advice on it?? Get off it! Portfolio is absolutely ridiculous, not because of the work, but because of the requirement for how MUCH work in how much TIME. Until you've actually been put in this position or that of a portfolio teacher, you won't understand. I have asked every college I want to apply to and all the jobs I go to if portfolio matters- and some of them don't even know what it is! One of the portfolio teachers I talked to thinks it's stupid too- he doesn't care if we know how to use a computer- we should have learned that in elementary school!!! It's just some stupid way for the government to weave through the ones of us that are-in their eyes- "usefull". Holy crap if I knew you hadn't even known about portfolio I wouldn't have even started this whole thing- what's the point arguing with a clearly IGNORANT man? Stop talking about things you know nothing about. Quote
blue_eyed_demon1 Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 I still have to say heaven help you people in the real world. When your boss hands you an assignment you disagree with, are you going to just refuse?Your attitudes are frightening, I'd never hire any of you (the anti-portfolio people). You have no idea the amount of kids that go to university thinking they know everything, switch majors a hundred times, run up tens of thousands of dollars in debt, just because they didn't research in advance. Stop wasting our resources and do the assignment, it'll save money for you and everyone else. OMG GO AWAY! STOP IT! WE DON'T CARE! YOU HAVEN'T EXPERIENCED JACK SH*T OF PORTFOLIO! STOP TALKING! Quote
blue_eyed_demon1 Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 After you graduate, you will be able to say you did the portfolio. You will have a competitive advantage above the other graduates who did not complete the portfolio. What advantage will the portfolio grant me. I talked to several business owners if they thought portfolio would help me get a better job and they said no, they would just think of it as a really long resume, and if they were giving it they would throw it in the trash along with the rest of the resumes, that they didn't like. QUOTE(Darth_Vader_007 @ Dec 7 2006, 03:45 PM) Also in the potfolio there is way to much emphasise on the arts. (I am a science type guy). Be more specific: what do you mean by the arts? The first assignment is to look at and interpret a piece of art or a design. The closest assignment that comes to a science is the information technology assignment. Also there is no assignments reffering to math or any other science. And there is no assignments reffering to history, geography, or foreign languages. As an example of how confussing the Aspects are: Aspect 2.1 Criterea #5 Demonstrates that you have participated cooperatively and respectfully. How are you supposed to demonstrate this I would assume you get a note signed by the event organizer. Aspect 3.1 Criterea #1 Describes your transition plan in a concise format. What if you do not know what you are going to do after school many students are not on the same schedule as the school. There is no class time for this huge project. geoffrey have you looked at the portfolio and how huge it is. If you have not seen the assignments don't comment on it. I could do it in 1 year if it was the only thing I was working on. The principle at the school that I used to go to said that the portfolio will make us students better people. My dad took offence at this because he grew up in Ontario and was in school all the way up to grade 13 and post-secondary, and he is not considered a better person. yay Darth ^^ Quote

geoffrey Posted January 13, 2007 Report Posted January 13, 2007 The maturity level from the other side of the argument isn't quite past the grade 5 level, so it's clear why this assignment is so hard, it's way beyond their ability. I'm done here. Quote RealRisk.ca - (Latest Post: Prosecutors have no "Skin in the Game") --
Charles Anthony Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 No, Geof, you are not done. I am going to nag. If this is the best students can articulate concerns, I have serious doubts about the capabilities of BC's education system. These aren't concerns about the system. These are concerns about a homework assignment some kids don't want to do.I think they are being very clear. The students do not understand why they are given this assignment. The bureaucracy appears disorganized and their teachers can not explain. Gone are the days when students just take things for granted and go to school for memorization. School is boring and students are picky consumers. Quote We do not have time for a meeting of the flat earth society. << Où sont mes amis ? Ils sont ici, ils sont ici... >>

I'm done here. No you're not done here Geoffrey. You started this by insulting something you were ignorant about. And now you won't be left alone about it. You are ignorant, biligerant and stuck up. Go cry over your university studies about how the poor wittle highschool students are taking your money. Shut up. You were a highschool student too- you took peoples money too- but you were different? C'mon! That's the argument of every teenager out there. "I'm different!" "I was different!" Get over yourself. Sorry but really- you're unique. Just like everybody else. Oh and by the way, if my side of the argument isn't quite past the fifth grade level (there's the proper way to say it! ) then I'm curious... if you're arguing with someone that immature- how mature does that make you? blue_eyed_demon1 Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 I am going to nag. Hooray- Someone agrees with the girl with the fifth grade maturity level! How ironic! Quote
blue_eyed_demon1 Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 Now go do your homework. You'd be done by now. Didn't you already use that one? Quote
