maplesyrup Posted December 11, 2004 Report Posted December 11, 2004 Where Will Green Voters Go? Switching sidesOne high profile eco-activist who’s already made up her mind is Tzeporah Berman, who just announced she is switching allegiance from the Greens to the NDP. Berman, a former Greenpeace organizer who pushed international boycotts against B.C. timber products and helped frame the so-called Great Bear Rain Forest initiative on the coast, said the NDP’s approach to social and environmental issues more closely matches her own, and that the NDP offers the only chance of defeating the Liberals. One thing that has become quite apparent is that the Greens are not a homgeneous group, as it says in the article Rafe Mair voted for the Greens in the last election. Does an activist who has tried to damage BC's forestry industry fit in with the more economically-aware image that the NDP has been trying to build? -kimmy Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)
Stoker Posted December 11, 2004 Report Posted December 11, 2004 Does an activist who has tried to damage BC's forestry industry fit in with the more economically-aware image that the NDP has been trying to build? I also wonder what all those rural, union voters will think when the NDP welcomes radicals into bed with them.... How many fallers are going to vote for a party the supports tree huggers? maplesyrup Posted December 11, 2004 Author Report Posted December 11, 2004 Does an activist who has tried to damage BC's forestry industry fit in with the more economically-aware image that the NDP has been trying to build? Tzeporah has actually tried to protect the environment and BC forests for future generations by taking a long term approach to forestry management. These are issues that are extremely important to BCers. Nothing is black and white like you try to paint it, as employment is essential as well. Working together is the key. Tzeporah has a huge following in the Green party as she really walks the talk. I would presume she is a lot more popular than the Green leader, so this is going to get interesting. I believe we will see more and more of these defections from Green party supporters as we approach the BC election next May. The Greens have a lot of good ideas but they cannot defeat Gordon Campbell in the next election. Is there still time for the BC Liberals to dump Campbell? I hear Christy Clark is just itching to get in there and take over! Wouldn't it be nice to have some form of PR so the Greens supporters could support their party? I will be supporting the STV proposal from the Citizen's Assembly in the May referendum. Quote An education isn't how much you have committed to memory, or even how much you know.
