taxme Posted March 2, 2017 Report Posted March 2, 2017 It never ends with these spend thrift crazy Canadian politicians that run this country, does it? Our spend crazy PM has decided to give 42 million taxpayer's tax dollars to Honda Motors. Talk about corporate welfare. Your tax dollars at work, folks. Is this theft of taxpayer's tax dollars or what? How dare any politician of any party give money to corporations that make billions. This 42 million dollars could have been better spent and have gone a lot further helping needy Canadians rather than handing over money to another big corporation that does not need money from the already over taxed and burdened taxpayer's of Canada. The list just goes on and on. Source:RightEdition Quote

dre Posted March 2, 2017 Report Posted March 2, 2017 Also you might have mentioned that in return for the 42 million in grants Honda will invest 408 million in the Canadian economy and manufacturing capacity. If that money is spent purchasing goods and services from Canadian contracts and suppliers, and those entities are taxed at 25%, then about 100 million dollars will be collected in taxes as a result of this nearly 1/2 billion dollar investment and the government will generate substantial gains for the tax payer not to mention providing a bunch of good jobs for people which will also help grow the tax base and increase the size of the non-services sector (which is exactly what we need to do). As much as I hate any kind of subsidies (as they essentially mean government picking winners and losers - and financing this effort on the backs of their competitors' taxes) I have to sadly admit that if Ontario didn't, some other place probably would. Until governments worldwide pull back from luring business with tax breaks or subsidies, this is the sick world in which we live. Quote
