Big Guy Posted April 8, 2016 Report Posted April 8, 2016 Tennessee just passed a bill which would allow counselors to deny services to LBGT individuals on the grounds of freedom of religion: http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/counseling-bill-passes-tennessee-house-38196760 Those against the bill argue that the bill; is unconstitutional and counselors can then reject PTSD patients if they anti-military etc. Proponents say counselors should not be forced to deal with people whose lifestyle goes against their religious teachings. Personally, while I am for free access to all, why would anyone want to deal with a health professional who may have a hidden resentment towards them? I would suggest that unless one has complete trust in your counselor then the process would not benefit anyone involved. I know I would be reluctant to go to a dentist whom I am suing in court. Does religion prevail in this case? Quote Note - For those expecting a response from Big Guy: I generally do not read or respond to posts longer then 300 words nor to parsed comments.
eyeball Posted April 8, 2016 Report Posted April 8, 2016 I'm assuming people will still have the right to counseling meaning the state will simply have to provide enough counsellors to ensure every possible belief system can be accommodated. jacee Posted April 8, 2016 Report Posted April 8, 2016 Looks like there will be good business opportunities for LGBT friendly counselors in Tennessee! They'll get an influx of them! Maybe put the unfriendly ones out of business! ? Quote
