The niqab thing worked for conservatives and moved them up in the polls overtaking the rival Liberals by as much as 7 percentage points as most Canadians including myself are against the niqab (in my case not if it is the woman's choice without any external or cultural pressures). Even Harper made this issue that only had affected TWO women since 2011 as a large part of his final speech last Friday in order to continue to build on anti-niqab emotions and prop up more support especially in Quebec where anti niqab feeling is strongest.

They became bold and arrogant when seeing the polls and continued with this by going too far a day later calling other cultures which may be different to ours as "barbaric cultural practices". This was too far for most Canadian minds and hearts and the polls has started to move in other directions with Liberals moving up likely mainly coming from NDP support as Liberals now are the only force who have a chance to stop conservatives from taking over. Beside people beginning to get Trudeau's message that the real issues for most Canadians are jobs and the economy and the environment not the fact that niqab affected two women on their citizenship.
