Big Guy Posted September 18, 2015 Report Posted September 18, 2015 Another situation where the state gets involved in parenting methods: http://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/b-c-court-decides-eight-year-old-too-young-to-be-left-home-alone-1.2569599 The judge says 8 years old is too young. The Social workers say 10 should be the minimum. Some say it is nobody's business. Others say if the state does not protect children then who will? How old (if any) should be the minimal age of a child left home alone? Canada_First Posted September 18, 2015 Report Posted September 18, 2015 I was 11 or 12 when I started to be left alone. I was babysitting my siblings. This was only once in a while. My parents took me to first aid class first. I would say that is a good age. 11 or 12 depending on the maturity if the child. Quote
BubberMiley Posted September 18, 2015 Report Posted September 18, 2015 I was six when I was first left alone regularly. I didn't think anything of it at the time. It wasn't until I was about 17 that I became completely irresponsible. Quote "I think it's fun watching the waldick get all excited/knickers in a knot over something." -scribblet
eyeball Posted September 18, 2015 Report Posted September 18, 2015 I moved to the big city when I was eight and spent the next year exploring it, either on my bicycle (without a helmet I might add) or on the subways (all alone). I was fascinated with sitting at the front or back of the train for hours on end. In any case, I think if the state insists on being our kid's Nanny no matter how we feel about it they better pony up and institute a comprehensive daycare system.
