PIK Posted August 25, 2015 Report Posted August 25, 2015 (edited) Commissioner of Canada Elections Yves Côté last week revealed that Spengemann had entered into a compliance agreement and admitted overspending on the nomination race in the riding, which he won in September. Szabo says Côtés investigation didnt go far enough. I am really disappointed that the Commissioner not only let Sven off the hook but flipped the facts on their head by describing this as an over-contribution issue rather than deliberately failing to report all nomination expenses, Szabo said. http://www.mapleleafweb.com/forums/index.php?app=forums&module=post§ion=post&do=new_post&f=3 Is this what open nominations means in trudeaus world. Szabo contends that Spengemann was close to other favoured Liberals in the Toronto area who are close to leader Justin Trudeau, including candidates Navdeep Bains and Omar Alghabra, both former Liberal MPs, and MP Kirsty Duncan. Szabo also alleges the party told Desjardins she had to drop Szabo as her official agent or face expulsion from the race. He says he agreed to step down so that Desjardins could continue He says Peel police encouraged him to forward his complaints to Côté, whose investigation of Szabos complaints about spending culminated in the compliance agreement, published on Friday. The sanction contrasts with that of Tory MP Dean Del Mastro, who earlier this year was convicted of overspending on his 2008 election campaign. Del Mastro was sentenced to one month in jail but is appealing the conviction and sentence. It is unclear if Del Mastro, who has consistently denied the overspending charge, was offered an opportunity to enter into a compliance agreement. So Yves is at it again. Protecting his liberal party? My Mistake. http://ottawacitizen.com/news/politics/former-liberal-mp-says-party-didnt-probe-membership-irregularities Edited August 25, 2015 by Charles Anthony merged OP with posted link Quote Toronto, like a roach motel in the middle of a pretty living room.
Topaz Posted August 25, 2015 Report Posted August 25, 2015 Who ever breaks the rules, needs to be dealt with, no matter what party it is. Quote
PIK Posted August 25, 2015 Author Report Posted August 25, 2015 Ya right. Elections Canada is corrupt. Quote Toronto, like a roach motel in the middle of a pretty living room.
cybercoma Posted August 25, 2015 Report Posted August 25, 2015 This is another reason MPs cannot hold party leadership accountable It starts with the nomination process. Quote
waldo Posted August 25, 2015 Report Posted August 25, 2015 this is thread worthy? Let me clear up any purposeful misinformation that appears to have shifted here from the dedicated MLW Del Mastro thread: the Liberal party candidate overspent (his personal allowance level) during his nomination pursuit... although what was spent in total on his nomination attempt was less than half of what was allowed overall. Perhaps another distinction is that the guy isn't even elected... yet. In any case, Del Mastro fought his charges of election overspending (not nomination overspending), and fought them, big time... clearly, it appears from that, Del Mastro never admitted to the overspending (and hasn't yet, as I'm aware). In that regard, its hard to see how the guy would be accepting to some kind of a "payback schedule"! it appears that OP link has been purposely mined to avoid the quotes/statements concerning a 'Mr. Szabo', who had been working on behalf of another person seeking the candidacy... taken in context to the full article, how does one not interpret this as anything other than the disgruntled comments from a guy who was deemed to be acting inappropriately and was asked to resign? Specifically: Szabo also alleges the party told Desjardins she had to drop Szabo as her official agent or face expulsion from the race. He says he agreed to step down so that Desjardins could continue. Broadhurst says that Szabo had been contacting members signed up in the riding and challenging them about the legitimacy of their membership, which intimidated some, particularly new Canadians who had joined the party for the first time. “Some of them thought they were in trouble with the government,” Broadhurst said. He also says Szabo circulated a letter to about 600 people in the riding challenging their memberships. now, in light of the full context of the article, the OP is simply taking (yet another) selective run at Elections Canada and "open nominations"... waldo Posted August 25, 2015 Report Posted August 25, 2015 So you don't know. It is all right to admit to not knowing the answer waldo. Nobody is going to think less of you.. as I said, don't expect others do your homework for you! You continue to offer your unsubstantiated opinions that are often nothing more than blatant innuendo if not flat-out lies. I appreciate doing actual research is a most onerous task for you! Quote
