socialist Posted August 17, 2015 Report Posted August 17, 2015 (edited) Yep. Kids are taught at home by watching videos and then they come to school to do work while the teacher is the guide on the side. Teachers no longer will need to really know anything because the video will be doing the teaching and the teacher will get by on limited knowledge. More garbage from the snake oil peddlers. It's BOWLshit. Edited August 17, 2015 by Charles Anthony deleted re-copied Opening Post Quote Thankful to have become a free thinker.
cybercoma Posted August 17, 2015 Report Posted August 17, 2015 Sounds like a good way to pay teachers less because after all, the teaching is being done by the video. They're relegated to the role of babysitter/tutor. Quote

This will make someone a ,ot of dough and then it will fizzle. 99% of educational research is bogus. Quote Thankful to have become a free thinker.
Big Guy Posted August 17, 2015 Report Posted August 17, 2015 This is not dissimilar to many University courses - except the videos are shown in class (the video of the prof presenting a lesson) followed by teaching assistants dealing with small groups. Some University courses consist of the prof coming in at the start of the unit, instructing the student to buy his book and the first class is lesson 1 in the book, the next class is lesson 2 etc. This may become a boring process but students already in University need little motivation. They are there because they want to and they have already paid for it. On the Secondary level, motivation becomes a very important part of a presentation. The more exciting, interesting and animated a presentation then the more the student will gain from the lesson. To present an exciting, interesting and animated lesson requires a lot of preparation and effort. Since most of these presentations are given to classes of 30 or more students, it is framed in a way that is mostly unidirectional and could be presented the same way to 35, 350 or 3,500 students. I have seen progressive schools where the same subject is offered at the same time -lets say period 2 for three different 3 grade 12 calculus classes. For the first half of every period, one teacher (an exceptional and experienced presenter) presents in the auditorium for all the grade 12 calculus classes. For the second half (or part) of the period the students go to their individual classes to be taught and supervised by their class teacher. The presenter is happy because he/she works for only half the period and has no tests or exams to evaluate. The individual teachers are happy because they only teach half the period. The students are happy because they get exceptional presentations as well as an opportunity for individual assistance from their scheduled teacher. Quote Note - For those expecting a response from Big Guy: I generally do not read or respond to posts longer then 300 words nor to parsed comments.

They're a bunch of lazy public employees. This is a great way to fight against that. Pay a single teacher to teach every class in the country through a video. Then the classroom teachers can all take pay/benefit cuts because they're now glorified babysitters. That should fit right in with your new "enlightened" ideology. Quote

It's the educationists who push this stuff, and the sad thing is that many teachers will go along with it not realizing the future ramifications. Quote Thankful to have become a free thinker.
