http://www.edmontonsun.com/2015/03/14/ndp-concerned-continued-attacks-on-teachers-will-drive-people-away-from-profession

This article really hits home for me. I know the attacks against educators is becoming more common, and this forum prove this to be true. Educators have thick skins, but people can only take so much before they begin to crack. I know many teachers who work 18 hour days, teaching and coaching kids, while running clubs, preparing lessons, and marking assignments.

I think some people need to put away their ignorance and realize how difficult it is to teach in this day and age.

The public sector, and especially teachers are under attack. We will continue to fight for worker rights and democracy.

Thankful to have become a free thinker.

ConcerNEd? This may the first time in political history that the NDP is just concerned, because their default position is OUTRAGE!!!! About everything , all the time.

Alberta teachers are the best paid in Canada and have been for quite a while.

NDP concerned continued "attacks" on teachers will drive people away from profession

This alone would save the govt a bucket of money. The very expensive senior teachers would be gone and replaced by younger teachers who really need a job. Win for the new teachers getting a contract, win for taxpayers. What's the problem?

Science too hard for you? Try religion!

It has been suggested by a member that is a "proud defender of public education and democracy" that older teachers are lazy. You may have a valid argument there.

I did not suggest that older teachers are lazy. But they definitely are well paid in Alberta. The govt could whack costs big time without losing a single job.

Many older teachers aren't trained on 21st Century Skills. They want to do things the old way with paper and pencils (YAWN)

We are living in the age of ever changing technology. 21st Century Learning is preparing kids for jobs that don't even exist yet. Young teachers, like myself, understand this.

So why are we giving the "many older teachers" raises if they are lazy?

Do teachers unions worry about seniority when it comes to job security? I was once in a union that did that. What a mess.

How is judging teachers by the success of their teaching ability a bad idea?

As it has been mentioned. Some teachers are lazy. So why should they make more than the teachers that are doing the extra work?

I'm not sure where I said that. I might have done. My memory isn't what it used to be. It's not a bad idea at all.

I don't see to many lazy teachers. A majority put in 12 hours a day, every day.

So which is it?

Many many times you have called older teachers lazy.

Am I missing something here? Is there another bcsapper posting when I'm not looking?

Socialist, the "I might have done" was sarcasm. I only have one post in the thread, prior to this one, and I did not say that Teachers were lazy. Sheesh!

Sorry. That was meant for resident teacher-basher, ash.

In past discussions you have claimed older teachers are lazier than the ones teaching now.

The biggest compliant with the teachers unions is the pay freeze.

I have also said I agree the teachers have done their part with wage freezes.

My issue is with the union saying teachers wages effects the education of the students

If a teacher is a professional the private aspect of their wages should not interfere with the job they have decided to do.

Teachers are teacher unions/associations/federations/societies/.

Now who is bashing?

I thought they were more than just a union

Your biggest complaint is the pay freeze and they have done their part when it comes to wage freezes but they should do their job the same way regardless of what we decide to pay them? Most probably will but talk about double speak.

no idea. I'm not sure they release that info. 1 Teacher making that is too many.

Why is 1 teacher making that much too many? Also are you talking anywhere in Canada or just BC?
