Michael Hardner
http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/ndp-scores-surprise-win-on-e-petitions-thanks-to-8-tory-mps-1.2517292 Interestingly, it was NDP with Conservative backbenchers who saw the appeal of bringing the true voice of the people to the HoC. I have doubt that this will pass committee. In fact, I'm thinking there's no way it will, but anyway ... This is baby steps, but it's kind of the first inkling of how a formal link between online public(s) could be linked in to the petition process. Let's watch this, and I suggest we track MLW polls on whether we support/not-support any ePetition.
Topaz
I was watching the House when this was brought forward and the Tories turned it down because they knew that Canadians would be sending thousands of petitions against them and so they said no. cybercoma
It does't matter. It will die at committee or the Conservative Senate will stop it.
