Guest Derek L Posted January 12, 2014 Report Posted January 12, 2014 Let me be clear, I don't have a problem with people having guns, I just want to make sure it's the right people for the right reasons. Canadians have lots of guns as has already been stated. But here we have (now you NRA people plug your ears) background checks and waiting times to at least take a stride to ensure it's not just let's say some drunken rage that has brought you to the "Joe's All Night Guns" store. I have seen 2 people shot outside a war zone and they where both in Florida and both of them were the kind of situation I just mentioned above. just for kicks I went to the gun store. All my ID was Canadian so the man couldn't sell me anything but he said take your DL to the state office, pay them 35 bucks they will take a pic and give you a Fla state DL, and I'll sell you all the AR 15's you want. Now that is damn scary. We don't have background checks or waiting times, other then how long it takes Canada Post to bring a person their new gun....More BS....please stop, you're looking really silly. Quote
Guest Derek L Posted January 12, 2014 Report Posted January 12, 2014 (edited) Well maybe you've never been to Afg. My point is though you can get them on the streets of downtown USA. They tend to get used in school shootings. I've never heard of any 30 round 5.56mm "clips" being used in school shootings either...... They must of had some crazy $hit over in the 'Stan...... Guest Derek L Posted January 12, 2014 Report Posted January 12, 2014 Now to help steer this thread back on course, here’s the requirements for a CCW permit in the State of Kentucky: http://www.kentuckystatepolice.org/conceal.htm right down at the bottom of the list: Demonstrate competence with a firearm by successful completion of a firearms safety or training course offered or approved by the Department of Criminal Justice Training. Now perhaps this is the opportunity for Democratic Rep. Combs and Democratic Governor Beshear to perhaps review the CCW training course outline……..maybe even include this guys: Four Golden Rules: Quote

Guest Derek L Posted January 12, 2014 Report Posted January 12, 2014 These threads always devolve into gun porn. It's ridiculous. Well instead of complaining about a direction of a given thread (as your sole contribution), why not offer your personal insight on the mater….I’d be more then willing to discuss it with you in a respectable and adult fashion. kimmy Posted January 12, 2014 Report Posted January 12, 2014 Was this thread really an attempt to promote discussion in the first place? What discussion is the opening post was supposed to foster? "Here's a gun owner who did something ridiculous, so let's ban guns?" Does an accidental discharge of a firearm merit a serious discussion? Here in BC, we have a plethora of accidental death every year. -recreational boating -recreational snowmobiling. -recreational ATVing. -downhill skiing -drowning -backwoods hiking Drowning alone kills far more people than firearms accidents and firearms homicides combined in BC, and that includes all the drug gangsters running around in Surrey shooting each other. If public safety is really the cause behind the concern over guns, there are way better places to start than recreational shooters. -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)
Guest Derek L Posted January 12, 2014 Report Posted January 12, 2014 If public safety is really the cause behind the concern over guns, there are way better places to start than recreational shooters. -k Good post Kimmy and I fully agree with your assessment, but in my view, such discussions on gun control/safety/rights etc always appear to rear their head, much like other topics, but I think in this case a more nuanced discussion could occur, devoid of the emotionally charged rhetoric (from both sides) after a media charged shooting spree. And to address Cybercoma’s concern over “gun porn”, though previous related discussions did turn into such threads (and I fully admit to playing apart), my several posts with pictorial references were an attempt to add several visual “educational aides” to the discussion……as I’m sure you’re aware, such techniques in combination with actual physical examples are a very large part of the Canadian, RCMP sponsored firearms safety program…..Simply put, some learn better (with any topic) with visual aides. I think, when discussing such topics, helping educate the “other side” on the basics of firearms and firearms safety helps to bring the discussion out of the weeds. Quote
gunrutz Posted January 13, 2014 Report Posted January 13, 2014 The NRA has this rather retarded philosophy that they need to posess guns so as to stop the Gov't from doing something or other, bu tin any case they can fight if they need to. And, I don't think you need a 30 round clip to shoot paper. I know a bit about the .556. from my time in Afghanistan. It was not meant for shooting paper. Irrelevant, every firearm was once a weapon of war, or based upon one. Quote

Guest Derek L Posted January 13, 2014 Report Posted January 13, 2014 Did your head get sore? I suggest you avoid that wall next time. Though the continued usage of incorrect, specific terminology by those that know little of firearms can be frustrating and I’ll often either overlook or simply correct, in this case, my captious ire was drawn by an individual that clearly doesn’t know what he’s talking about, all the while claiming an obviously fictitious “past”……..Simply put, if one is going to BS, don’t attempt to BS folks that actually know what they’re talking about and might actually know people in such fields.
