bush_cheney2004 Posted June 5, 2013 Report Posted June 5, 2013 (edited) Do any members here know the history of Pastor Perry F. Rockwood's People's Gospel Hour radio program out of Halifax, Nova Scotia ? Is this program still broadcasted after his death in 2008 ? Backgrounder: I buy a lot of new and used compact cassette recording media at auction sites. Used (previously recorded) media comes at a significant discount for Type I and Type II bias tapes; metal (Type IV) always commands a premium. Anyway, some of the very best cared for used media (cassettes) comes from people who recorded religious programming off the radio, chants, gospel music, Chakra meditations, and Grateful Dead concerts. I consistently receive some used cassettes with People's Gospel Hour programming out of Halifax, and apparently the late pastor had being doing this show for over 60 years.....since 1947 ! This show had a wide following in Canada and the U.S. at one time, but I don't know if it still exists. It actually feels bad taking the bulk tape eraser to Jesus and the Gospel Hour, but I figure these shows have probably been uploaded to the Web just like old Grateful Dead concerts. Does anybody have more information about this program's history and longevity ? Thanks ! Edited June 5, 2013 by bush_cheney2004 Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
Bryan Posted June 5, 2013 Report Posted June 5, 2013 I used to listen to Rockwood's other show "Prophecy For Today" fairly regularly. Very solid biblical foundation, nothing whacky like so many other media preachers. Both shows are still broadcast in syndication, and the archives have all been digitized. Quote
bush_cheney2004 Posted June 5, 2013 Author Report Posted June 5, 2013 OK...thanks...as that would maybe explain why people are giving up their precious analog recordings of Rockwood's radio programs. Some of these "radio checks" are meticulously logged by date and subject. I would agree that his shows are rock solid without any of the usual flair and dramatics dished out by other religious television or radio broadcasts. Am somewhat surprised by his popularity in Canada given what is usually posted here at MLW concerning religion(s), evolution, Bible, etc. Just goes to show that membership here is a rather small sample size regardless of topic. I cue review each Rockwood tape before erasing them, sometimes listening to the entire program. Very well put together, and I guess one would get very good at it after 60 years. Most of the shows I get are from the 80's and later, so his broadcasting craft was perfected. This guy should be in one of the radio broadcast hall of fames if not already there. I will probably save one or two tapes just out of respect for the effort people made to record the shows, and for the programs themselves. Cassettes are no longer as popular as before, but are excellent for analog archiving of radio/voice programming. It is extremely difficult to totally erase the programs depending on the coercivity of the tape. I can still faintly hear Rockwood's show in the background noise and tape hiss after erasure. Spooky ! I remember we used to freak ourselves out as kids listening to Beatle records backwards...Paul is dead and all that. What happens when you listen to Rockwood backwards? eyeball Posted June 5, 2013 Report Posted June 5, 2013 So does everyone now! Haven't you heard the good news? I imagine St Peter has digitized everyone's records so as to speed up the process. Quote A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.

eyeball Posted June 5, 2013 Report Posted June 5, 2013 You have evidence of this or just faith? Quote A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.
bush_cheney2004 Posted June 5, 2013 Author Report Posted June 5, 2013 Faith of course...even Jesus would forgive a beheading and cannibalism on a Greyhound bus. If Roman Catholic, I wonder what hind of penance that would get in confessional ? Cannibal: "Forgive me Father for I have sinned...it has been two weeks since my last confession. Last week, I killed a guy, cut off his head, and ate his eyeballs." Priest: " Wow...you had quite a day, eh ?" Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
