g_bambino Posted March 8, 2013 Report Posted March 8, 2013 But for some reason that didn't phase him so he continued appointing conservative senators? Phase has nothing to do with it. He's legally bound to advise the governor general to appoint senators. Quote
WWWTT Posted March 8, 2013 Report Posted March 8, 2013 Nor is the governor general and no bill becomes law without Royal Assent. Again, what's your point? I forgot to add that the GG can not make any recomendations, amendments or vote in either parliamentary house. WWWTT Quote Maple Leaf Web is now worth $720.00! Down over $1,500 in less than one year! Total fail of the moderation on this site! That reminds me, never ask Greg to be a business partner! NEVER!
WWWTT Posted March 8, 2013 Report Posted March 8, 2013 Phase has nothing to do with it. He's legally bound to advise the governor general to appoint senators. So in other words he never had his uh oh moment as you claim. WWWTT Quote Maple Leaf Web is now worth $720.00! Down over $1,500 in less than one year! Total fail of the moderation on this site! g_bambino Posted March 8, 2013 Report Posted March 8, 2013 Governor General can not introduce a private members bill. No. But, again: So what? A bill tabled first in the Senate still requires the approval of the House of Commons before it can become law. Quote
g_bambino Posted March 8, 2013 Report Posted March 8, 2013 So in other words he never had his uh oh moment as you claim. Yeah, he did. He said he'd never recommend for appointment to the Senate anyone who hadn't been elected as a candidate for appointment. Then he had to do it, anyway. Just like any NDP prime minister would. Quote
WWWTT Posted March 8, 2013 Report Posted March 8, 2013 No. But, again: So what? A bill tabled first in the Senate still requires the approval of the House of Commons before it can become law. You seem to forget that the senate is the "Upper house" Still an unelected body, therefore not a democratic institution that can introduce, make recomendation and amend Canadian law. Far beyond enforcement and interpretation. WWWTT Quote Maple Leaf Web is now worth $720.00! Down over $1,500 in less than one year! Total fail of the moderation on this site! g_bambino Posted March 8, 2013 Report Posted March 8, 2013 Still an unelected body, therefore not a democratic institution that can introduce, make recomendation and amend Canadian law. Doesn't prove the Senate "subverts" democracy. All it proves is that you still have a simplistic understanding of what democracy is. Quote
WWWTT Posted March 8, 2013 Report Posted March 8, 2013 Hey there's something new! Subverts! Where did that come into play! Want to explain that one in a little more detail there my friend? WWWTT Quote Maple Leaf Web is now worth $720.00! Down over $1,500 in less than one year! Total fail of the moderation on this site! That reminds me, never ask Greg to be a business partner! NEVER!
g_bambino Posted March 8, 2013 Report Posted March 8, 2013 Where did that come into play! The New Democratic Party has, frankly, acted irresponsibly in its role as Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition in the way that they are criticising the Senate of Canada. This includes ridiculous accusations that democracy is subverted when the Senate initiates legislation [emphasis mine]... False statement. You're not even paying attention. Quote
WWWTT Posted March 8, 2013 Report Posted March 8, 2013 Well looky looky,I guess you are right once and a while. All those times you were wrong must have been very discouraging for you but you stuck in there like a real trooper and kept your chin up! Still not a democratic institutuion WWWTT Quote Maple Leaf Web is now worth $720.00! Down over $1,500 in less than one year! Total fail of the moderation on this site! g_bambino Posted March 8, 2013 Report Posted March 8, 2013 Still not a democratic institutuion It's a part of our democratic system. It therefore doesn't "subvert" democracy, contrary to your original assertion. Quote
WWWTT Posted March 8, 2013 Report Posted March 8, 2013 It's a part of our democratic system. It therefore doesn't "subvert" democracy, contrary to your original assertion. LOL that is freekin funny!!! The senate was created when women were not allowed to vote in Canada! You still must own property to become a senator! It has changed very little since it was created! It is one of the most backwards institutions in Canada (and by the way they can create laws!) Why Gambino why??? Why do you ignore the facts? WWWTT Quote Maple Leaf Web is now worth $720.00! g_bambino Posted March 10, 2013 Report Posted March 10, 2013 The senate was created when women were not allowed to vote in Canada! So was the House of Commons. ...[T]hey can create laws! No, they cannot. Quote
PIK Posted March 13, 2013 Report Posted March 13, 2013 And he said he was not going to bring up keystone while he was in the states, another lie. Quote Toronto, like a roach motel in the middle of a pretty living room.
