August1991
Tom O'Connell, US Attorney, assistant US DA (retired): OK, here is how it works, based on personal knowledge. The Border Patrol has a “catch and release” policy. They detain and transport illegals – back to Mexico – NUMEROUS times before they go to the trouble of a legal proceeding – deportation. (The number of “releases” depends on the particular federal District – Yuma Sector, AZ, used to be 10.) Why is deportation important? Because the next time the illegal alien returns to the U.S... August1991
August1991
Unilever buys Dollar Shave Club for $1 billion: There was another product launch in 2006 that I’m sure no one at P&G even noticed: Amazon Web Services. Even if they did notice, I doubt the executives focused on the Fusion launch appreciated that P&G’s seemingly unassailable advantages were on the verge of declining precipitously.AWS made it easy and cheap to start an online company; YouTube, launched a year earlier, made it cheap and easy to share video; Facebook, launched in 2004, made it possible to spread said video to millions of people. All three came together with the 2011 founding of Dollar Shave Club and its 2012 launch with one of the best introductory videos of all time... August1991
David Wilikinson, Secret Service, and others describe events (and President George Bush Jnr's reaction) on 11 September 2001: He fought with us tooth and nail all day to go back to Washington. We basically refused to take him back. The way we look at is that by federal law, the Secret Service has to protect the president. The wishes of that person that day are secondary to what the law expects of us. Theoretically it’s not his call, it’s our call. ... The president once told me that the biggest piece of advice he’d gotten from his mother when he became president was always do what the Secret Service says. I reminded him of that several times that day. The president and I knew each other very well—we’d spent a lot of hours at his ranch—and kind of tongue-in-cheek several times that day, I said, “Remember what your mother said.” politico Edited September 14, 2016 by August1991
August1991
Steve Jobs, Computer Guy, 2011: Quote "I wanted to jot down some of our thoughts on Adobe’s Flash products so that customers and critics may better understand why we do not allow Flash on iPhones, iPods and iPads. Adobe has characterized our decision as being primarily business driven – they say we want to protect our App Store – but in reality it is based on technology issues. Adobe claims that we are a closed system, and that Flash is open, but in fact the opposite is true. Let me explain." August1991
Quote The alternative right, more commonly known as the alt-right, is an amorphous movement. Some — mostly Establishment types — insist it’s little more than a vehicle for the worst dregs of human society: anti-Semites, white supremacists, and other members of the Stormfront set. They’re wrong. Breitbart Edited November 22, 2016 by August1991 Stupid Software

According to a Times reporter, as Mr. Spencer finished a speech in which he said that America belongs to the white race, “several audience members had their arm outstretched in a Nazi salute.” When Spencer, or perhaps another person standing near him at the front of the room – it was not clear who – shouted, “Hail the people! Hail victory!” the room shouted it back. Globe and Mail White nationalism is racism. It is white supremacy by a different name. August1991
Andrés Miguel Rondón, MA in Economics Edinburgh, Madrid based: Quote Donald Trump is an avowed capitalist; Hugo Chávez was a socialist with communist dreams. One builds skyscrapers, the other expropriated them. But politics is only one-half policy: The other, darker half is rhetoric. Sometimes the rhetoric takes over. Such has been our lot in Venezuela for the past two decades — and such is yours now, Americans. Because in one regard, Trump and Chávez are identical. They are both masters of populism. August1991
Quote "Does the world really need another wedding photographer?" That was the thought that ran through Saskia Nelson's mind when, having spontaneously resigned from her office job at a London Olympics legacy project, she was thinking of her next move. An amateur photographer, she decided four years ago, aged 43, that she was going to go professional. .... What she did know about, however, was online dating. August1991
James Mattis, 66, US Secretary of Defense: Quote The way that you get your diplomats listened to in an imperfect world is you make certain you back them up with hard power. The reason I say that is, as much as I’d like to live in a world where people who are out to do others harm would be willing to listen to rational thought, not everyone is. .... I think too there’s a way to make certain that we don’t confuse this regime, which is a murderous regime, and remember it has killed a lot of Iranian people and locked up in jail a lot of young Iranians when they demonstrated against them in the Green Revolution a few years ago. You cannot confuse them with the regime. The Iranian people are not the problem. ... Most American families are very generous, unless they’ve lived in places where they’ve adopted kind of a selfish style. But, that’s only a few pockets of the country that really have that bad. Although they’re big pockets in terms of population, most of the country is not like that. August1991
Abigail Disney, 59, granddaughter of Walt, describes what it's like to be born rich in the 20th century: Quote "Actually, having a jet is a really big deal. If I were queen of the world, I would pass a law against private jets, because they enable you to get around a certain reality. You don’t have to go through an airport terminal, you don’t have to interact, you don’t have to be patient, you don’t have to be uncomfortable. These are the things that remind us we’re human."
