When we read daily (it seems) of atrocity after atrocity in Syria and Darfur and throughout the Islamic 'spring', one wonders at the mentality of some of our 'human' co-existers on this planet can consider themselves as human..?

In syria a well armed and organized army is trying to overthrow the government using terrorist attacks. I assure you that if that happened in Canada or the US things would get every bit as brutal.

And of course while the fighting is all the fault of the U.S., the fact that the U.S. played a big part in Israel agreeing to a cease fire is never mentioned. Guess we're never responsible for peace - as we are responsible for every act of violence that occurs.

Actually US attempts to broker peace in the middle east get a whole lot of attention, including this most recent effort. As usually people are left wondering what the heck you are even talking about.

Bad comparison. In Syria the Alqeada affiliated FSA started staging terrorist attacks against the government, executing government supporters, not to mention any christians they came across. I guarantee you that if a group such as that

But yes its a horrible comparison. The south in the American civil war was nothing like the FSA, and I assure you that if the US government faced a credible threat from a terrorist organization to its own survival the gloves would come all the way off.
